A follow-up to the best-selling The Storm Whale , winner of the 2014 inaugural Oscar's First Book Prize in association with the Evening Standard.
It's winter time and Noi's island is covered in a blanket of snow. Even the sea is icing over. Noi is worried about the little whale he saved last summer: Can he survive the harsh conditions? Little does Noi know that it's the little whale's turn to save him. A magical and touching story about a lasting friendship. A truly beautiful work packing a real emotional punch.

`At the heart of this emotionally charged story is the joy of a lasting friendship, tender and true' Fiona Noble for The Bookseller , Children's Book of the Month

We loved reading the first storm whale book and this was was great too. The story works well as a stand alone story but has a little more meaning if you have the previous book too. We liked the part where the whales come, the illustrations were really special, and my daughter was very pleased the kids father was alright!

This book is about a boy who lives by the sea with his dad and lots of cats. One day his dad goes out fishing but doesn't come back so the boy goes out into the snow to find him. Ultimately the boy gets save by his whale friend. It's a lovely story and has a great atmosphere and feel to the book. The illustrations are beautiful. My boy wanted me to buy it after having it read to him at school.

This is a very unique lovely heart warming tale. Little Noi rescued a storm whale one winter and often thought about him. Noi's dad is out at sea and needs rescuing. Noi goes looking for him on the boat with the help of his friend the storm whale. They named the boat after the helpful whale. It's a nice and short story, one sentence per page. It has beautiful illustrations. We sat cuddled up in our PJs and blankets with the fire on reading this together. This book kept Sophie interested for the whole story. A lovely winter tale. Highly recommend for young one's. I'll be buying the first book to this series and looking out for more by this author.

We thought this book was beautiful, the pictures are stunning and whimsical and the story is very sweet, with the right amount of peril and happy ending!
We didn't know the first book, and it may have made the book a little better to understand the boys attachment to the Storm Whale.  Alone the book is still a beautiful tale of the boy searching for his father at sea and being rescued by his whale friend.
All is well in the end and shows a beautiful relationship with father and son.  We're off to get the first book now!

I love this book it gets two thumbs up.

I was sad when the boy couldn't find his daddy, but I did think the boy was brave (like me!) when he went to find him.
I liked the drawings, snow is my best weather. I like to go out in the snow but it is cold! I liked this book because it is like me because my daddy goes away to work and i do have to be a brave boy too.
My best bit was when the whales helped the boy when he was in the boat. I liked that bit and I liked it when the whale came back and stayed with his friend the little boy.

I did like the different colours in the pictures, there was lots for me to ask mummy questions about.  I like this book and I like to sit and read it with mummy at bath time so I can pretend to be a whale.

We really like this book, and have read it to Jess a LOT!
Noi is worried about his dad and so risks going out onto the ice to find him.  Although he gets into trouble his friends the storm whales come to find him.
Lovely illustrations, and very readable.  Most of the words are simple and understandable, but it introduces some longer words, which I like.
We're looking out for the earlier book in the series now.

I read this book to my four year old daughter, we both enjoyed the book. It is about a boy who is worried his whale friend won't be safe in the winter. Then the boy's dad doesn't return from fishing and he goes to find him. The whale then helps lead the boy to his dad. It is a heart warming story about friendships and my daughter understood that they were both there for each other.

A brillaint follow-up to The Storm Whale, sharing the same magic captured in the first book! I adore Noi and his little yellow Mac and the generosity of his spirit. He is worried about his dad who doesn't return home from sea one winter's day and goes out searching for him only to find his best friend Whale again! This will melt even the iciest hearts!

The illustrations are so lovely and has a heartwarming narrative, but did feel it was a bit lacking in story. Very short, not much happened and unfortunately not really enough detail to keep my 4 year old absorbed like he does with most stories. Perhaps if we had read 'The Storm Whale'  (the first book in this series), we may have felt a bit more sentiment towards the characters and understood the friendship between Noi and the his whale friend.
