An early reader about a little boy who is scared of just about everything, especially speaking in front of lots of people. A task to speak about the Blue Whale in front of his whole class just about defeats him. However the more Alfred learns about the Blue Whale, the braver he becomes.

A really interesting book, shows Alfred and how he builds his confidence through the book. The writing is clear and easy to read great for someone who is building up their reading.

Some really great facts about blue Whales through the book and 2 full pages at the back.

We loved reading it.

We won this book in a giveaway from wacky bee. it’s not a book we would have chosen ourselves but I’m glad we won it.

The story is about a boy who has to talk about blue whales in front of the whole class, he is a very nervous boy but he over comes his nerves the longer he talks about blue whales.

I like that you learn facts about blue whales as you read the story and the facts pages at the end are great. We definitely learnt something new from reading this book.
It’s an easy read for my daughter who has a higher reading age than her actual age. She enjoyed it and seemed really interested in the facts we read. She really likes the pictures too.

What a lovely story about building self confidence. Written in such a way that made it easy to follow, with lots of interesting whale facts.

We really enjoyed learning about whales along with Alfred as he overcomes his fears of talking in front of the class. The story is one of finding self confidence and over coming years and it is great to see the change in Alfred during the book as he gets wrapped up in learning about blue whales. We particularly liked the facts page at the back.

This was a fantastic book and exceeded my expectations. It's about a boy who was petrified because he had to give a talk in front of his class about Blue Whales. But in the end it all turns out well as he gets really enthusiastic about his subject. My girl loved it because he overcame his fear and thought he was brave. My boy loved learning all about Blue Whales. The facts at the end was brilliant too and we have read books about blue whales before my kids could relate to this book.

This book is great! Perfect for our blue  abyss topic as it includes facts about blue whales and is a lovely short story perfect for year 3. Also it has an underlying pshe theme about being brave, trying not to worry and overcoming your fears.

My 5 year old enjoyed listening to it  and looking at the pictures. And I can't wait to share it with my year 3 class as I know they'll love it  too!

This was a lovely book with a really good message. My son is very interested in marine animals (his parents work with them so he may be brainwashed...!) and this story had lots of interesting facts about the blue whale interspersed with a story that has a strong message about how being well prepared for something makes it much easier. The main character is very believable and the illustrations are excellent.

I love this book. My son is a confident reader so could read with ease, but the topic is great for him. He is shy and struggles with speaking in front of others, he could relate to the character in the story and loved how the boy was brave enough to overcome his fears in the end. A lovely story with a strong message regarding growth mindset and perseverance, and the sense of pride that accompanies such achievements. Topped off with some fabulous facts and illustrations.

Alfred is a little boy who is scared of lots of things, particularly talking in front of the class. The teacher gives him an assignment of finding out facts about the blue whale. The more Alfred learns, the more excited he gets and he finds himself able to give his presentation to the cladd.

This is an absolutely beautiful book, perfect for children who are shy and nervous like my daughter, but great for helping children overcome any fears they may have. My daughter loved reading about Alfred and it let us to having conversations about feeling the fear but doing it anyway!

My other daughter loved learning all about blue whales. She was fascinated by them and wanted to go to school and tell her friends all about them!

Highly recommended.

This book is just beautiful.  Not only is it educational (loads of fascinating facts about Blue Whales - and I'm talking as an adult when I say that!) but it's soul food too.  Alfred is nervous, shy, scared and anxious about soooooo many things and all these feelings go into overdrive when the teacher sets the class a task to talk about a given animal to all their classmates.
Alfred is terrified but as he learns more his fears start to disappear.
Super illustrations too - all in all it's a really lovely read

A lovely little book with is for children who are crossing over from picture books to chapter books. It is a heart warming tale of a painfully shy boy who gains confidence through a topic at school. Lovely moral for perseverence and growth mindset.

This is a really good book for children who are confident readers and crossing over from picture books to chapter books. My son is on the purple reading level and read this comfortably.  The book has lovely illustrations and  follows the tale of a shy boy who gains confidence, so it has a good message of perseverance.
