When Will accidentally creates a mysterious portal during a trip to the zoo, he's transported into the world of the Night Zoo, and thrust into an incredible adventure.
Joined by his friends, Sam and Riya, Will journeys through a new portal and arrives within the high walls of Igloo City. It is a strange place where the animals follow strict rules put in place by their leader, Circles the owl. Circles is determined to stamp out any rule breakers and wants Will to track down a group of rebels, but is it the right thing to do? The safety of Igloo City depends on Will choosing the right side - will he follow Circles' orders, or break free from her rules and join
the rebels?

Alex and I read this book together and having read the first book in the series we were wary whether or not we needed to read the Lioness of Fire Dessert book first.

We decided to read this book anyway, the book begins in a similar way to the other book that we had read where we find Sam entering the World of the Night Zoo Keeper via a mysterious portal which then leads onto an adventure with his friend Riya.

Sam was given this power by his Grandmother and he is set on these adventures to help the animals in danger and to save them. The story itself is relatively short so it's very easy to get into the story and enjoy it and Alex enjoys reading it to me which allows me to keep an eye on his reading at the same time.

I love that there is a website to go along with the books and encourages the children to write and learn more.

A lovely set of books to read and we can't wait to read the others.

I liked this book, I don’t feel it made that much difference I hadn’t read the previous book. It was great adventure and mystery story with a bit of magic, just the kind of books I like. I loved the night zoo keeper and his torch. I would love a torch like that, to find out why you will have to read the book.

Unlike some reviewers, we didn’t have any difficulties with reading this as a stand-alone story - Anna felt that the character information at the front provided her with enough information to enjoy the book without reading the series in order.  She really enjoyed the fast-paced adventure, along with its twists and turns, and liked the characters’ banter and friendship.  She also picked up on the underlying theme of teamwork and commented a few times that they did their best work as a team rather than as individuals. She particularly liked the illustrations as well as the activities at the end of the book and is now keen to read other books in the series.

I enjoyed this book and it didn’t matter that I hadn’t read the first one. It’s an adventure and funny in places. If you like animals then read this book. I loved the penguins in the story. I wish I could find a magical portal!

It was quite a weird, but funny story, a bit fishy at times. Will is the main character, the Night Zoo Keeper. Will's friend, Sam, the spying giraffe, is very clumsy and very peculiar. It is not everyday that you see a giraffe and his ossicones are like antennae. This book is about their adventure in a cold bit of the Night Zoo. I did read the first book in this series a long time ago. The Voids, the robot spiders, Will's enemies, are in this book as well. I didn't totally expect things to turn out as they did at the end of the book. An exciting animal adventure story.

This book was about a Night Zoo Keeper called Will, a giraffe spy giraffe called Sam and a girl called Riya and they save Igloo City. I really liked the book.
My favourite bit was the Hot Chocolate Song. The penguins were my favourite characters. I liked the puzzles in the back and would like to read the other books about the Night Zookeeper

I was quite disappointed with this book. It was well written and was an interesting storyline, but clearly can't be read in isolation. It starts like it's the middle of the story! You can guess what's going on, but so much is assumed. Just one or 2 comments/an intro page would have been so helpful. I'm not going to give it to my niece as she hadn't read the earlier books.

This is the third book in the series and I think it would have made much more sense had we read it's predecessors.  The book clearly continues directly on from the second and made little sense at first as we knew nothing of the back story.  Will, his friend Riya and a Giraffe Spy called Sam appear to be in some alternative world, presumably The Night Zoo.  An owl seems to have a group of penguins and polar wolves in her thrall.
It transpires that she's not one of the good critters and tricks Will into retrieving a key which lets scary metal spider creatures, called Voids, in.
It's then up to a plucky band of mice to save the day (with a bit of inspiration from Will).
In all honesty Lucas wasn't fussed by the book - though I think if it had been read in order and as part of the overall series he may have been more enthused.
The books are part of a more widespread learning experience though - which parents and teachers can access a www.nightzookeeper.com - which looked quite impressive.  Certainly a series worth considering for parents who are home educators.

I kind of liked this book. I think it lacks alot in description, and they don't really travel around much. Though it 's plot is quite good.
