I was really excited to read this book. My sister and i watched the movie recently and loved it. I read this book to my sister. As there are seven stories, i could easily read her a chapter at bedtime. We both loved the stories and the characters and the fantastic illustrations. They are bold and colourful and fill the pages. I really enjoyed reading the foreword by the illustrator too. I liked how she described why she drew her pictures for the book the way she did. I think that children aged 7 onwards would enjoy reading this. We did!

This brilliant book is all about a family who have Mary Poppins to look after them. Mary Poppins can be quite unusual at times.  There’s a number of stories, I enjoyed the story about the posh dog called Andrew. I really like Lauren’s Child’s illustrations because they are very detailed and add brightness to the book.  I like the front cover, how the leaves are golden and the eye on the umbrella which looks like it’s staring out at you.  The illustrations are beautiful and carefully coloured.  They add to the story by showing you what is happening in the scenes. I think when the author wrote the story they included lots of detail about the characters but mainly about Mary Poppins. The book has old fashioned words that describe things and I liked that it was old fashioned because I could try and infer what the words meant. This book is hardback and it is such a nice book I will keep it for a long time. I took turns reading the book aloud with my mum.

I put this book in my class library and immediately there was a queue of excited year 5 children eager to read it! It certainly didn't disappoint - a classic story with incredible and very recognisable illustrations giving it a modern twist! Loveable characters and and a story that captures the imagination of children and adults alike.

I like this book because in Chapter 3 Mary Poppins' uncle floats in the air when he laughs  and so do Jane, Michael and Mary Poppins. I would rate this a great book for all children and this is the best book I ever read! I will rate this book 5 stars with a cherry and cream on top!

The story of Mary Poppins is one a lot of children know from the classic film. But now with this book they can realise and experience the original format and story of Mary Poppins. The illustrations just add to the magic of the book. The hardback copy is a version you can keep for years and will firmly hold its place on the favourites shelf.

We have been reading this book at bedtime. It is truly a beautiful colour illustrated hardback book and would make a delightful present. I think I read the first two Mary Poppins books when I was about the same age as my son. I wasn't aware when initially reading it how the book was even dated for that time. (The family situation and relationships are interesting.) However, the strange part of reading this book to my son was getting to the part where Mary Poppins insists on giving the four Banks children a spoonful of some unknown substance, changing for each child. Unfortunately, for me, an hour before reading this I had been talking to my son, on a very basic level, about you only ever take 'drugs' which a doctor prescribes you and it is very dangerous to take anything which you don't know for certain what it is.... Oh well..Then the 'no references' for Mary Poppins... allowing a complete stranger into your home...If you allow all these things to go over your head, it is a lovely, rather magical, book though.

Son's thoughts....I quite liked it. It is quite magical. I think Mary Poppins is a witch, a good witch though. I liked Andrew the dog, I thought he was quite funny. I think the best part was when they all had tea in the air with Mary Poppins' Uncle.

What a magical book! It's so beautifully illustrated especially in the hard back edition.  The story is closely linked to the original film but as always the book is better than the movie. I would highly recommend this book. It will be a book treasure and to reread over the years.

I found this book really interesting, especially with all of the fascinating pictures. It is the normal storyline of Mary Poppins and I would recommend it to ages 10+. Mary Poppins could be described as posh, fairly stern yet kind. This book really pulled me in. It could be described as an adventure and fantasy, both at the same time. It is full of beautiful illustrations.
