It's holiday time for the Princess in the bestselling, laugh-a-minute, action-packed adventure for young readers who like their princesses not only prim and perfect, but also dressed in black.

After battling monsters all night, a sleepy Princess in Black decides that she needs a holiday. After all, the Goat Avenger has offered to protect the goats while she's away. The very next day Princess Magnolia rides her bicycle to the seaside, where the air is salty, the sun is shiny, and the sea is as blue as monster fur. But just as Princess Magnolia is about to take a nap on her hammock, she hears a "ROAR!" Could a sea monster ruin this holiday for the Princess in Black?

"This book is about a princess called Princess Magnolia. She also disguises herself as the Princess in Black.

My favourite part was when she keeps on being disturbed many times in her sleep. And at the end she gets stuck on an island."

The illustrations by LeUyen Phan are stunning and add to the humour of this story.

We’d not heard of this series before but we thoroughly enjoyed it! The princess was a likeable character and left us wanting to read her other adventures. Great book for early readers to try and have a go too.

The series is new to us but I can see my daughter wanting to know what other adventures the princess in black gets up to.

It’s perfect for my daughter to try and read parts. She loved the big bold words and enjoyed doing the roaring sounds for the monster.

The short chapters were great as it meant we could read a couple each night when I put my daughter to bed. This made it exciting to find out what happened next.

Lovely illustrations with lots to look at. The goat avenger looked great.

My daughters favourite part was when the princess in black fought  the sea dragon.

I really enjoyed this book as it is about a Princess superhero with a difference, she dresses in black. The story was fun and the character of the Goat Avenger boy was very funny. The book has nice short chapters and lovely pictures that really make the story come to life. I will definitely be reading more books in this series now.

A great book, my daughter liked the princess in black anyway and this was another great addition! It is a great book for a 6 year old as she could read parts herself and there were enough pictures to keep it engaging. She found it very funny and enjoyable to read!

My 6 year old daughter loved this book. The story was fun and the characters very funny. She liked being able to read the book herself. The chapters are short and the illustrations mean there isn’t too much writing on each page which she liked. We are working our way through the set now

My daughter was super excited to receive this book in the post. She loved the fact it has colour illustrations, they definitely increased her enjoyment of the book. She misses the fact books for her age have less and less pictures in it. The pictures meant she wanted to read it the same day we received it. They also meant she is keen to look for the other titles in the series.
The princess was her favourite character and she loved that she switched from a proper princess into a princess superhero! It was nice to read a more adventure style princess book.
It’s a great book for pushing their ideas of a stereotypical princess!

What a fab book for bridging the gap between picture books and text based stories.  The Princess in Black/Princess Magnolia is over worked dealing with monsters and needs a break.  Her friend promises to protect the goats and off she goes - only to have to deal with a sea monster at the beach.
It's a quick and fun read with LOADS of fab colour illustrations.  Split into 13 chapters so small people can read as much, or as little, as they like.

A review with a little help from Mummy doing the typing: I am a girl who doesn't like pink, I like playing with cars, dinosaurs and dressing up as super heroes. I liked the idea of this book because I can be a princess even if I don't like to wear pink. I liked the really colourful illustrations and the shiny front cover. My favourite character was the Goat Avenger because he was really funny.

Feedback from Mummy: I was really impressed by the quality of this book, it felt like something really special, glossy pages and really brightly coloured illustrations. My daughter enjoyed the story and loved the idea of having a book that was about a not so typical princess. It is a lovely idea and I would highly recommend it, especially if your child wants a more relatable character. We are already looking into other books in the series.

The Princess in Black takes a Holiday is the fourth book in The Princess in Black series. Although we weren't familiar with the other stories, this did not affect our enjoyment of the story. The short chapters, colourful illustrations and exciting story line really appealed to Izzie and she confidently read this story independently.

The Princess in Black is more superhero than princess, battling monsters night after night. One day she is so tired that her new friend, The Goat Avenger, suggests she takes a holiday and so she does! However, trouble follows her to the beach and soon she finds herself battling a sea monster! Will she ever be able to enjoy her holiday and will the Goat Avenger be able to fill in for her while she is away? Well that would be telling! All we will say is that Izzie is now keen to read the earlier books.

My daughter loved this book, she read it herself and some bits she found very funny and made her laugh out loud.
Great characters and enough pictures to keep her engaged in the book as well.
