It examines the qualities which led to the Romans' success, the growth and downfall of their empire, and the everyday lives of the people of the time. The aim of the text is to help students to appreciate the influence of the Romans on British and European history. Designed to cover the National Curriculum at Key Stage 3, the book is arranged in chapters, each of which opens with an "investigations box" setting out aims and objectives and indicating which key sources will be used.
