Lily and Blue Kangaroo - a friendship forever! The eighth title in this hugely popular series featuring Lily and her loveable soft toy sees the inseparable duo starting at a new school with surprising results.
When Lily starts at a new school she asks Blue Kangaroo to come too. Lily thinks Blue Kangaroo is worried about going but, secretly, he can't wait to explore and try new things - which is just as well, because the fun lasts even longer than he expected...
A reassuring story for children starting school.

We are huge Blue kangaroo fans in our house and this book has been a perfect way to discuss my daughter starting school. It showed and explain bits about school in a simple fun way with the same bright  and bold illustrations as the previous book so my daughter knew the characters and it helped getting her ready for the started of the her first school term.

This is our first Blue Kangaroo book and I'll be looking for some other ones from this series, because my son liked this story a lot. The illustrations are easy to understand and attractive, and it has a nice storyline. It's not just the girl starting school, but also the kangaroo and the fears of the girl are actually expressed by her through the kangaroo, and they both end up loving school. Also it's nice for the kids to see examples of what is done in school, of how the kangaroo (or kids) can also have fun on their own, and it also gives some examples of things we can do to help our kids to prepare and look forward to going to school.

Ivy loved this book. It was really engaging and although it was a long story for a almost 4 year old she sat quietly and really enjoyed listening. She also loved the pictures. I think this book is a must have before they start school which can be really daunting but this fun story prepares children and shows how exciting and fun school can be.

This is a wonderful story about a magical toy kangaroo who goes to a new school with his little friend Lily. She tries to make it seem like it is blue kangaroo who is frightened to go. Unfortunately he gets left behind at the end of the day and is able to enjoy all the school activities for himself much to the surprise of the teachers when they return the next day! Both my daughter's loved the book especially the bright blue colour of the kangaroo!

This is a delightful book aimed at children starting school.
It is easy for the child to relate to and makes references to things children may be worrying about before starting school.
The illustration is wonderful with lots of things to look at and discuss it is well set out and not too "busy".
My daughter has a favourite toy so could relate to also wanting to bring that along and we discussed what her toy might do if left at school over night.
This is a must book for all school starters! I am going to save this for my boy when he starts school in a couple of years.
Great addition to your library a double thumbs up from our household

My daughter was really happy when she saw this book. Firstly she watched the illustrations and then she asked me to read her about the girl and her little friend. The story is about Lily who is  a little nervous about starting her new school. She asks Blue Kangaroo (her toy) to join her. Of course, Blue Kangaroo is happy to do it.
Lily’s new teacher, Miss Zazou, puts Blue Kangaroo on the windowsill in the classroom so he can watch everything. Lily is having such a good time that she has forgotten all about him. This is an amazing story about connection between a child and their favourite toy and how important they are in helping children with big events in their lives. My daughter has her favourite toy (pink rabbit) and she reminded me that she took him with her when she started her nursery. This story prepares children to be ready for school – they learn that they will need to buy a new lunch box and that lots of new things will happen in their lives that can be a bit scary but in the end they will see that nursery is a great fun. I love the illustrations which are very pretty and the text is well written. I've read lots of books about starting school but this one is so cute that I have to admit that it stills my heart  We really love it!

I think it will be a great book to read again just before my daughter starts Reception class in September:)
I highly recommend this book and I think it will be a really good gift for all children starting school

One of the books in the Blue Kangaroo series by Emma Chichester Clark about a little girl called Lily and her magical friend, Blue Kangaroo. In this story, Lily is starting a new school and Blue Kangaroo is going to go too.

As the day approaches, Lily voices her own concerns about starting at the new school by stating Blue Kangaroo doesn’t want to go; Blue Kangaroo is a bit scared; Blue Kangaroo might get lost. On the day itself, Blue Kangaroo even has a tummy ache and wants to go home! The adults gently reassure Lily and Blue Kangaroo throughout the story and ease their concerns.

When Lily gets to her new classroom Blue Kangaroo sits on the windowsill and watches Lily enjoy learning about shapes and numbers; then playing in the playground; painting; building with blocks; and even story time. When Lily accidentally leaves Blue Kangaroo at school that evening, it is finally his turn to have some fun!

This is a great book for young children starting school or moving schools. It gently offers reassurance about common concerns as well as showing what a typical school day might involve. By the end of the story Lily is no longer worried and is looking forward to going to her new school again. My daughter, who starts school in September thoroughly enjoyed it.

My daughter loved this story she is starting school in september and related to the little girl taking her blue kangaroo to school as she has her own snuggles who she loves dearly. Perfect for children starting school it teaches children about what a school day is like and that it doesn't need to be scary. Taking a cuddly to school reassures children until they no longer need that cuddly. My daughter liked the pictures and storyline and was happy to sit for the length of the story without getting bored.

Such an engaging story with lovely illustrations. My 4 year old became completely absorbed. He is starting school in September and is a little anxious about being in a new environment, just like Lily. This book shows children that it's ok to be a bit nervous to begin with, but reassures them that there will be lots of exciting and fun adventures to be had! Big thumbs up from us.

This is our second Blue Kangaroo book. It was a little bit long for my 2-year-old but we read through it quickly as she does love the Blue Kangaroo character. It's a great book for getting children ready for school. We borrowed it from the library as my 2-year-old doesn't really believe she'll go to school - when we talk about how children go to school she says it's just for big kids so I got this out in order to introduce her to the idea. She loved it and we talked about how when she's bigger she'll go to school. A sweet book which introduces the concept that children might be worried about going to school and that's ok.

I read this to my grandson Damien who is two years old, but unfortunately he seems too young to fully understand the story. He enjoyed the part where the kangaroo is on his own! I will try again in another six months when he might appreciate it more. The illustrations are lovely and the words flow nicely.

This is a super story for children who are starting their new school. The 'Blue Kangaroo' series are really easy to read and Lily is such a lovely character. We liked the fact that the story shifted focus from Lily's worries to those of the kangaroo. It helped my daughter to talk about her feelings positively. We also loved the detail in the story as she could make links between her experiences and those of Lily.

My three year old twin girls really enjoyed this book and wanted it read again straight after. It is a sweet tale of a child's first day at school and all the concerns and expectations that they have. There was a lovely fantasy element when the kangaroo got left behind at school and came to life and had a go at all the fun things that he had seen all the children do during the day. The illustrations are lovely and the text engaging, a very nice book.
