Dirk and his sister, Jaqueline, are very exited about their forthcoming holiday on a farm in Kenya. The farm belongs to their friend Andre's dad, Paul du Bois. Meanwhile, Jula, the witch doctor of the Kikuyu people, has received a message from the gods, telling him to get rid of the farmers on their land. With great ceremony at the altar of Aberdare, new members are sworn in to help get rid of these unwanted people. Paul and the children are warned about these evil intentions by Haami, a half-brother of Paul. Together with Jerogi, Haami's grandson, with whom Andre, Dirk and Jaqueline have established a close relationship, they succeed in preventing a war with the Kikuyu, but not without real danger to their lives. A fast-paced adventure story set against the Mau-Mau uprisings in Kenya. It also gives the young reader some interesting insight into the social, political and ecological events of that time.
