Max the Brave is a kitten who is in search of a mouse in this cute and humorous story. Max is adorable and endearing with all the qualities you'd wish to encourage in your child - fearlessness, curiosity, resourcefulness and knowing when you've met your match!

A fun story about a little kitten going off to chase mice... if only he knew what a mouse looks like. Luckily the mouse is clever enough to trick him... or is he? A lovely twist at the end that my 4 year old loved.

Max the Brave is a fun story about a cat Max who is trying to be a brave and fearless cat ready to catch a mouse but the problem is, he doesn't know what a mouse looks like! This book really surprised me at how good it was, I picked it up from the box of school library books and didn't think much of it but needed to calm the children down for a few minutes and I couldn't believe how good it was. It is an easy book to read but very funny and really easy for the children to follow along with, they thought it was brilliant. The pictures of the creatures on each page are fantastic, with very little on each page but Max and the creature it meant the children could really focus on the story as there wasn't too much to get distracted by and the contrast of the bright coloured pages and Max the cat made it great for attracting their attention. They loved how the story was repetitive in a way that Max would ask pretty much the same thing each time as it meant they got to shout out, no that's not mouse, which they really enjoy and it's great to get them interacting and showing an interest in the story. The children loved the twist at the end and thought it was silly that Max didn't realise and we got to talk a bit about how brave Max really is and that everyone is a lot braver than they think they are and can do anything if you keep trying. Max the Brave is a fantastic story with a great message that made the children happy to listen to and they giggled throughout, and then when we finished they asked for it to be read again!

What a fabulous and funny adventure book for Little ones. Max the cat is not a sweet cat he is fearless and brave and sets out on an adventure to find Mouse. What he finds is mouse and monster but not as you expect them and he certainly ends up with a big surprise.

This is a very funny little story that even I enjoyed reading and my toddler enjoyed following  Each page is a beautiful bold bright colour with simple illustrations that really captivated my child. The text is short and simple but enough to make a great story to read.

I think we'll search out more books by this author!

I do love this series, although my daughter was less keen on this one. Bright, bold, simple illustrations are great for toddlers. Max gets to meet a variety of different animals and my daughter liked it when he found the monster/kitten. I thin the reason she didn't like it as much is that you have to know what a mouse is, and understand when Max gets it wrong, and she's not quite old enough for that. I think older pre-schoolers would love it!

This hilarious book tells the story of Max the kitten who is in search of a mouse to chase, the only problem is he doesn't know what a mouse looks like.  I think the story is more diverting for adults than children as it is largely through the illustrations than the words, so I have to explain a lot of the subtleties to my LO (such as the birds all talking to Max from the ground after he climbs the tree to talk to them).  But the story is simple and well told, and the ending made me smile.  My daughter likes the story, but I'm not sure she fully understands the nuances which make it far more entertaining to me, although I'm sure in time it will be well loved.  The illustrations are simple but clear and add so much to the story.

This book was sent home from the school library with my four-year-old and we both really enjoyed it. Despite the fact that we have recently started reading longer books we both found this shorter one to be funny and we enjoyed the character of Max - a cat who wants to catch a mouse but doesn't know what a mouse is! It's a fun little caper with a likable little cat.
