Young Red McCarthy couldnt believe his eyes when he saw the size of the polliwog in his bucket as he pulled it out of the Erie Canal. Over time the polliwog grew, and soon Red had a giant adventure on his hands. Author Peggy Thomas was raised in western New York State and drew on her memories of hearing colorful tall tales from the 1800s while writing this story.
