From the creators of "The Pencil" and "The Runaway Dinner" comes the story of a loaf of bread, told slice by yummy slice! Three cheers for bread, HIP-HIP-HOORAY! Early in the morning the baker bakes a lovely loaf of bread. SO lovely, in fact, that by the time the sun goes down it's been gobbled up! Every. Last. Slice. Who eats it all? Well, the baker munches on its crunchy crust. The baker's wife eats delicious marmalade toast and the baker's son gets a tasty cheese and ham sandwich for his lunch. Let's not forget the dog, even he gets his share! HOORAY FOR BREAD! Slice by slice and crumb by crumb, everyone eats their fill of bread, with a teeny tiny mouse nibbling up the very last scrap. "Hooray" - squeak-squeak - "for bread!" But wait - there are some missing slices! Where could have they gone? Is there a tasty double spread just for YOU? This is a deliciously playful read-aloud from Allan Ahlberg and Bruce Ingman, two of the most popular picture book makers of their time. Bruce Ingman experiments with a softer, younger style of illustration - his gentle, charming pictures complement the text perfectly.
It is a book that celebrates bread, whether it's a yummy cheese and ham sandwich or some buttery toast. It rejoices for its crunchiness and its crustiness, its slices and its crumbs! What do we say? HOORAY FOR BREAD!

A simply charming and lovely story about the life of a loaf of bread.  My 5 year old son thinks this book is simply amazing as it travels through the day of a loaf of bread and how that bread is used in a family.  Simple idea, great illustrations really is a great inspiring story.

A fab book from a brilliant partnership. Read this to my almost 6 year old and he loved it! Tells the story of a loaf of bread slice by slice: the story is fun and engaging and the illustrations are vivid and eye catching. We are big Alhberg fans in this house and this offering didn't disappoint. I think my son is the perfect age to enjoy stories like this, the plot line is almost philosophical and encourages questions which is always a good sign of a good book.

This is a beautiful and charming tale about a day in the life of a loaf - from the very first slice to the very last crumbs - and those that enjoyed it.
The illustrations are gorgeous and the gentle prose brings the story to life.
My little boy really enjoys this; we’ve read it repeatedly and it prompts a lot of discussion and around food and traditional production. That said, it’s a lovely wind-down book at bedtime as it’s a slower-paced book from many others and my son finds it very calming as a result.
