Celebrate thirty years of the Large family in this stunning anniversary edition of a modern picture book classic.

"If you are not familiar with these stories, you really have not lived ... you just couldn't get better" Guardian

A stunning 30th anniversary edition of a family picture book favourite, this is the story of Mrs Large the elephant - who just needs five minutes of peace and quiet away from her boisterous children! So, taking refuge in the bathroom, she fills herself a hot, foamy bubble bath and takes in a tray of her favourite breakfast and the morning paper. But there's never a dull moment with the Larges, and it soon becomes clear that mum's quiet time is to be very short-lived! Family life is beautifully observed in this warm and funny modern classic from Jill Murphy, one of Britain's most treasured author-illustrators.

I was so pleased to get a copy of this book, as it was one of my favourites when I was a child and now it is loved by my daughter!  The illustrations are as soft and as lovely as I remember and the story is one that resonates even more with me now I am a mommy myself!

This book is an absolute classic in our house and I love reading it-particularly as it is relatable! Mrs large is just trying to get 5 minutes peace without her children and finds herself struggling much to her children's amusement. The book is nicely illustrated and Jill murphy is an excellent children's author, as shown through this book

We really enjoyed reading this book. The mum elephant makes herself a snack and tea and runs herself a bath in hope of five minutes peace, but it doesn't work out. It is such a true reflection of what happens and my little one asked many questions afterwards.

Mrs Large is hoping to have a little bit of peace and quiet on her own. She tries to go to have a bath but her three children want to come too. Lester wants to play her a tune and Laura wants to read her some pages from her book whilst baby elephant just wants to get in the bath with her. Mrs Large tries to pay her children some attention but also really wants a little bit of a rest. I think a lot of parents will appreciate this concept. We loved the illustrations and especially liked the baby elephant squirting water from his nose. A lovely book.

A lovely story. I have wonderful memories from being a child myself. We now own the whole collection. And now im an adult with my own children i can relate to the goings on in the 'Large family household'. My children find it really funny as i always joke about about having 5 minutes peace. They liked it when the children threw the bath toys in the bath and then got in the bath. A really lovely story.

Love!! I used to read this book as a child, and was absolutely thrilled to receive it as a gift at my baby shower. Great length for our bedtime routine, illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, and the storyline is one that every parent will be able to relate to! One book that has definitely stood the test of time, I love how it's celebrated it's 30th anniversary and still a family favourite! Not a bad word to say about it. Love!

My twin cousins absolutely love this book and find it funny. It's their go to book if they want a bedtime story (and I like it as it's quite short and doesn't take up much time). The illustrations in this book are one of my favourites I've ever seen in a book. The twins love how it links to bath time which they have right before bed every night.

This book has nostalgic qualities, as I was read it as a child and am now reading it to my own. Only this time I can relate to the tiredness of Mrs Large! The illustrations are lovely, the language simple and precise. A really lovely read for everyone involved!

Mrs Large wants five minutes to herself, but wherever she goes in the house, her children follow her; something all parents can relate to. We love this book, which portrays family life. We love 'Peace at last', so knew this would be a hit. The illustrations are beautiful, it's a simple story that is warm and funny. The bit where all the children are climbing in the bath with Mrs Large made us all laugh. It's a story parents and children can relate to. One of our favourites that we will read over and over again. Big thumbs up.

I remember this story from my childhood. Sophie read this at the library museum. It had a sensory box with a bath tub, elephant, bath hat and rubber duck. We sat and read it together with all the props. Sophie was walking around whilst listening to it. It would make for a good bedtime story book.

My girls found it really funny as i always complain i cannot have a bath in peace. They liked it when the children threw all the toys in the bath and then jumped in themselves. Its a really funny story with lovely pictures and one that appeals to all ages.

We love the Large family and this special story has already been read over and over in our house. The pictures are great. I just hope that the message gets through to our eight year old - guess it would be expecting too much for our one year old to do the same :-)  Jill Murphy writes so softly but effectively - an absolute delight and a classic.

Another lovely story by Jill Murphy.
This is exactly what happens in our house, which is why we can all relate to it so well!
Georgie thought it was very funny when all the toys were thrown in the bath and even funnier when they all got in with Mrs Large!
As always, the illustrations are clear and fun to look at and spot things in.
As elephants are a favourite in the this house, this book had been an instant hit!

Mrs Large is a mummy elephant after my own heart! All she wants is five minutes peace from her three kids! The poor woman even takes her breakfast to the bathroom but as every mum knows the kids soon bundle in to interrupt mum's relaxation! It's nice to see a book written for children yet clearly empathising with harassed mums. The pictures are gorgeous, my boys loved spotting what the baby was doing. At the end of the book I asked my four year old what he thought mrs large was sad for? She wanted a rest, he replied. Next time I say mummy's just having a cup of tea for five minutes he may actually understand!

This is the story of my life! It's about the mummy elephant trying to get five minutes peace but no matter where she goes or what she does, she's followed by her children. My two smaller children really enjoyed the story and liked to point out the elephants in the book. My older son thought this story was hilarious because he identified that it was like being in our house. It's a really nice book that both parents and children will enjoy.

Loveable characters and a fun plot make this a great read for any mums with their hands full... and the kids will live it too!

The Large family are a little chaotic....like the best of families.  And like in most families Mrs Large just wants some peace and quiet from her little herd of noisy, time demanding children.  But as most Mum's know, when you go to hide from children they have an incredible knack or seeking attention.  A story most families can relate to, and my little one found this really funny.  The illustrations are fun and full of little details which make exploring the pictures really fun.  It's a fun, giggle-along-to story of one of our favourite elephant families.

Pretty much sums up real life, as a mum I empathise with Mrs large the elephant who just wants 5 minutes to her self. It made my children realise how much like the characters in the book they are in the way they demand my time. Hopefully they will understand and one day I might get 5 minutes peace, here's hoping!

My mummy said she used to have this book when she was littler. My nanny loves elephants so she bought it for me.

I think this book is funny and really like the pictures. The baby is my favourite because he's cute and funny. I think the book is a bit long so sometimes get bored reading it at bed time but it's nice to read after school.

A story about Mrs Large the elephant and her three children - who never give her any peace!  She tries to escape, but they always manage to track her down.  JUST like being a parent!!
Jess loves this story.  She giggles every time the youngest elephant throws all her toys in the bath and then jumps in with his pyjamas on!  We read it at least once each day, and sometimes more.
I love the front cover of this 30th anniversary edition - colourful and textured.

Short but sweet with lovely pictures and plenty of chance to drop hints to my little ones about how it's nice to have time to yourself sometimes!!

This is a fun book. My boys love elephants and find it funny they all end up in the bath. From a mum's perspective it makes me feel less happy as I completely sympathise with Mrs Large! It's lovely at the end when she gets a few minutes though. Nice to see how much her children need her to.

A lovely story about a family of elephants. The mummy wants just 5 minutes of peace but the children have other ideas. We enjoyed the story but felt it was a little bit short. It was a story that I remembered from being a little girl, and wanted to read it to my daughter.

I actually don't like this book for its negative connotation of trying to escape your children! It's true of us all of course but I don't think it's a subject to be dwelled on. Kids are ambivalent
