"Jack and the Wardrobe" is a mix of fiction and biography. The fictional story concerns Jack, a boy living with his dad in Belfast. Since his mum left home (he doesn't know where she's gone), Jack has struggled at school. His interest is only rekindled when he starts a project on CS Lewis. Jack's story takes him to many of the places CS Lewis lived and worked, and the reader finds out more about Lewis through Jack's project. Eventually, Jack finds out where his mum is and goes off to find her, going to England with his aunt (who is younger than he is) without telling anyone where they're going. Through the story, Jack, who is not a Christian, learns about prayer, but initially views it as a kind of magic, leading him to learn about Lewis' comment that God is not a 'great magician'. Jack also learns the truth behind Lewis' description of Aslan being good, not safe.
