We love this book with its gentle rhyming and beautiful illustrations. It takes you through a day in the eyes of a baby and there are so many wonderful little details in every picture that even adults see something different each time. My little one loves turning the “peepo” pages to find what the baby can see. This is a firm favourite in our house!

Another bookshelf must.

I have read this rhyming book about a baby’s day to Cece since she was born and it has kept her attention year on year.

‘Here’s a little baby. One two three. Sits in his high chair. What does he see?’ ... the author asks this question every other page as the baby goes from sitting in his chair to his pram to his cot etc observing an average day for his family and everything his sisters, parents and grandma get up to. The pictures are beautiful - old fashioned (the Father is in military uniform and they have a tin bath In the living room) and packed with detail so my daughter can see everything the baby sees from toys, to washing on the line, to a ‘baby in the mirror just like him’.

This is a classic, for a reason.

An absolute classic describing life in the forties from the point of view of a baby playing Peepo. Lovely book and my little girl finds it hilarious whenever we get to the Peepo parts for some reason. A new bedtime favourite

This book cleverly has holes between the pages which encourages the child to peep through and see what the baby can see on the next page saying "peepo!". Each page rhymes nicely and describes different objects and family members in each scene. This in turn encourages the child to search for them as well as noticing other things too. The picture are full of detail which adds to the fun of finding different things on each page. Annabelle enjoyed looking through the holes and in time will enjoy pointing out things too.

This is an amazing book and must for all children to have on their bookshelf. The book rhymes really well and I just love the story. It tells of a day in the life of a little boy, set just after the war. I'm sad my kids are too old for me to read it to them as often but I have kept this book as a keepsake.

As a child I was a big fan of Janet and Allan Ahlberg's wonderful books. Now I can relive that joyful wonder by reading their books to my three year old twin girls. The illustrations of life during WWII are so charming yet realistic. From the Father's army uniform and gas mask box hanging on the bedpost to air balloons, bomb damaged houses and air raid wardens in the background, the attention to historical detail is just beautiful. The story itself is a simple story of a baby's day and very easy for young children to follow. The peepo cut out's are fun and make the child really able to be engaged. A truly wonderful book for very young children.

3 stars
I occasionally read this book to my 11 month daughter at bed time. The reason I only give it 3 stars is that it is quite dated and old fashioned e.g. The father bringing in coal etc - children now wouldn't relate to this. However it is a good length for young children and nicely illustrated.
