The Rhyming Rabbit is a delightful story from bestselling duo Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks, creators of the hugely successful What the Ladybird Heard . Poor old Rhyming Rabbit is feeling lonely and left out. None of his fellow rabbits appreciate his carefully thought-out poems. And as for the other animals he meets? They just tell him to be quiet! Then one starry night he meets someone who shares his enthusiasm for poetry . . .

Although this book is not as highly rated as The Gruffalo, it is my childhood favourite and I loved reading it at bedtime. The book is about a rabbit obsessed with rhyming and how he overcomes barriers. I consider it one of Julia Donaldson’s best books.

This is a fantastic book!  The rhymes are absolutely brilliant; we end up singing them as little songs whenever we read this story!  The illustrations are fun, and easily recognisable to little ones. It is a lovely bedtime read and we love the sparkly cover!

Although not one my favourite Julia Donaldson books to read, it is a regular story choice for my daughter who loves most things rabbit themed.

This is anothe great Julia Dinaldson book. It's a lot longer than most of her classic books and much more wordy so we usually skip parts with my daughter - who is anxious to get to the part where the rabbit makes a friend who likes rhymes too! I think as she gets older this will become more loved by us but at the moment we enjoy the animals and the silly words in the poems.

This story was good because mummy and I like making up silly rhymes like the rabbit and I was really happy that he met a friend who liked to rhyme too. The glittery pictures are cool too and more exciting than the usual pictures. I got this from Santa and he made a good choice!

This is a charming story about a rabbit who loves to rhyme; he creates poems when other animals think he should be doing something else. He heads off in search of someone who shares his love of rhyming.
The illustrations are wonderful; it’s the same illustrator who did What the Ladybird Heard and Sugarlump and the Unicorn. They’re bright and engaging; they help my children follow the story and keep them interested as this is quite long (so maybe not very suitable for very young children unless their attention is pretty good.)
Donaldon’s narrative isn’t it’s usual rhyming prose - saving that instead for the rabbit’s poems. By introducing the poems from the rabbit it can feel a bit jilted - moving from narrative to dialogue repeatedly. On the other hand, I read the poems in a special rabbit voice and the kids are hugely entertained by them. Pros and cons!
Not my own personal favourite and the children will reach for some of her other offerings first but it is a lovely tale of following your passion and friendship and one we do keep returning to.

A good book but not as good as other JD books, it's a bit longer and not as catchy as some of the rhyming slang used in other books like "The Gruffalo" and "A squash and a Squeeze".

This is not my favourite Julia Donaldson book as it is quite long without the same flow as some of the others like Tiddler or Room on The Broom. Having said that my son has taken to the story and loves feeling the glittery pages and enjoys hearing the funny rhymes that the rabbit and the sheep make up. His favourite bit is the grumpy centipede!

Lovely illustrations and storyline, but a little bit long winded with all the poetry as well as the story.

We bought this book because Julia Donaldson is one of our fav authors. I was a little disappointed as it is not as good as The Gruffalo or What The Ladybird Heard. However, it is still a good book. Words flow well and storyline is nice. It is certainly worth a read. Perhaps borrow it from your local library to see if your little ones enjoys it or not - before buying it. We got it reduced from Sainsburys for about £3 so it was worth it for us.

We love Julia Donaldson so when we saw this in the book shop we wanted it for our collection. Sadly my daughter found it a bit too wordy and long (mainly the little poems). The illustrations are just as lovely as her other books. It's not a family favourite for us but a nice addition to read every now and then
