This Book Thinks You're a Maths Genius explores seven key areas of maths: geometry, space and volume, statistics, numbers and number patterns, codes and ciphers and the concept of infinity. Each spread centres on an open-ended question that introduces a key mathematical concept and suggests activities that engage the child in a fun and entertaining way. Activities include predicting the trajectory of a Malteser; building loo roll skyscrapers; mind-reading magic tricks; devising your own spy code; and working out the physical correlations between your dad and Usain Bolt. The end of the book includes a section of paper-based crafts including the kit to make a cardboard football and a data log for family quirks.

"this book actually made me like maths!"
Rory would enjoy Maths however as he has dyspraxia presenting maths in the traditional way is a real struggle for him. This book is a brilliant way to look at Maths differently through experimentation and creativity. We have never been able to find a traditional "workbook" that has suited Rory. This Book Thinks You're A Maths Genius and gives you the confidence to think you are too

I think this is a great book for both boys and girls. I think kids who love maths and those who find it boring would both like different parts of the book. I loved that it made maths more interesting rather than just boring numbers in sums.

What an ingenious book! Perfect for any boys or girls who love maths - this book will really open their eyes to maths all around them.  Each double page has a mathematical problem for them to try, and then explains the maths behind the experiment. For example, creating a fractal tree, finding hidden rules, finding the volume of your foot, and going on a topology hunt. I was very impressed with how the maths is laid out, fun and engaging, definitely would help any child aged 9+. At the back of the book are several pages to cut out, for example a five pointed kirigami flower, towers of Hanoi, and making Mobius strips.  It's such a fun book, and I would say an excellent addition to a home or in a class.  Would push a more able mathematician to think outside of their comfort zone!

I am not a fan of text books prepping children for SATs  or trying to cram them full of information. This book is very very different to those kinds of books, and I imagine would appeal to both children who already love Maths and those who need some encouragement  or are struggling a bit. Why? Because this book is fun and interactive - it truly brings maths to life!  The layout is appealing, the typography looks fun and there are plenty of non-patronising colourful cartoons and diagrams. The learning is hands on, with each topic beginning with an activity, rather than long explanations of what a concept is. And the activities are fun! Want to learn how to send a secret message?  Or how to impress your friends with a magic trick (that is totally maths based).

I love this style of book which engages a child's imagination and treats them as a partner in learning (rather than an object to be crammed with information). It brings creativity to the process and makes the learning process fun.  An amazing book, and one that my son loves.

This book is prefect for any child that loves maths or needs a little bit of help. It's a fun book with bright colourful pages and descriptions which automatically attracts any child's attention. My son really enjoys maths and is good for his age (8) but he really enjoyed this book and learnt so much from it. He especially liked the sudoku page, he has now learnt to do them and wants to find more! would definitely recommend.

Really love this book. it's hoot a bout of everything on it like games such as sudoku and tells you interesting things like the ratios of ingredients for making cakes and biscuits.

I'm not sure the title really describes the book very well but that's the only negative point. Otherwise i tacky loved this book

My son was over the moon to receive this booking he post. He wanted to sit down straight away to do the different activities, he’s a bit of a maths geek so it’s great that there was enough in the book to challenge him. He’s already half way through the book and asking me to get him another.

I love that the book makes learning fun and interactive.

Initially Madeleine didn’t seem all that impressed with this book, she was not interested in the cover, however once she got round to having a look she thought it was lots of fun her favourite bits were measuring people who she knew and learning how to complete sudoku puzzles
