Alex Sparrow is a super-agent in training. He is also a human lie-detector. Working with Jess - who can communicate with animals - they must find out why their friends, and enemies, are all changing into polite and well behaved pupils. And exactly who is behind it all. This is a humorous tale full of farts, jokes and superhero references. Oh, and a rather clever goldfish called Bob. In a world where kids' flaws and peculiarities are being erased out of existence, Alex and Jess must rely on what makes them different to save the day.

I was looking forward to reading the book from the blurb. It was easy to read independently and the font was a good size. There were no illustrations, but that didnt matter. I liked the main character Alex and thought it was cool that he got a power , even if it was a smelly lne i. I also liked the clever goldfish Bob. The book was really funny and I really enjoyed iT

This book is a hilarious twist on the superhero genre. The writing is slick, witty and hugely relateable. I read it out loud to my son and his grandparents on a wet Sunday and we had the best time! Alex and Jess make a wonderful team and their dialogue is great fun to read out loud.

Kids who loved David Solomon's 'My brother is a superhero' series, or the Hamish books by Danny Wallace will love Jennifer Killick's plot and characters..

This book is full of fart gags, pigeon poo and witty banter - FYI Parents should be prepared to explain what a 'Bad-A' is if reading to the younger crowd.

Highly recommended, made us all giggle uncontrollably.

This was a really good book! I liked the title, it made me want to read it because it sounded hilarious.  The front cover was really colourful and I liked the illustrations.
This book is about Alex who is training to be a secret agent. His best friend is a fish called Bob. He becomes friends with a girl, Jess, who can talk to animals. They discover that most children are starting to follow the rules and behave well. But they aren't sure why. Together they try to find out why people are changing and how to make them different again to save the world.
My favourite character was Lauren, Alex's little sister because she was extremely funny. My favourite part was when Alex was sitting on the fence watching Bob, Alex's fish friend, swim around. It made me laugh really loud. I'd rate this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars because I loved it and would recommend it to my friends. I wouldn't change anything about the book it is fine the way it is.

This was a very exciting book. I felt like I was in the scene.
My favourite character is Jess because she's a bit like me.
When someone called ' The proffesser' gives Alex and Jess special powers so they can track down the evil mastermind which is making everybody the same even though everyone should be unique.

I read a lot of kids books (primary school librarian life, that's how I roll), a lot of 'funny' kids books aimed at 7-11 year olds.  Many of these books are amazing, well-written and I'm happy to recommend them with gusto to the age bracket they are aimed at.

However, without doubt, this is the first book in ages that has made me snort my tea through my nose and that I have encouraged not just my daughter to read but my husband as well (they are both loving it, I hear them giggling as they 'do the voices' at bedtime).  The characters are brilliant (especially Bob), the plot exciting, but mainly it is just proper, laugh-out loud, doesn't-matter-what-age-you are FLIPPING HILARIOUS!

Alex and Jess(ticles) make a perfect miss-matched odd couple, I can imagine them bickering fondly well into old age, and I can't wait for the next in the series.

A very funny book that was aimed at my 8 year old daughter. The main characters Alex and Jess are great. They are investigating why pupils are becoming model pupils, full of mischief and generally thing that kids love.

Great book well worth a read.

Alex Sparrow is a boy unlike any other...he has a farting ear!

Alongside Jess, this new crime-fighting duo are trying to save all of the kids in their school, enlisting the help of a goldfish and a pigeon!

Jennifer Killick has created a wonderfully hilarious tale along with some unforgettable characters. A real page turner from start to finish and no doubt it will be my next class read.

This book was really funny and exciting.  It is about a boy called Alex who finds out at school that PALS (positive aspirational life skills) actually stands for pupil automated lobotomy scheme that turns  naughty children into well behaved, mindless and personalityless clones.  If I had to describe this book in one word, it would be impossible it's just a book to great for one word. This book is fun, a good read and rib tickling funny. I wold definitely recommend this one.

Somewhere between The Demon Headmaster and Alex Rider this book is packed with humour, spies and mysterious goings on!

I found this book very funny from the very beginning- it's definitely my humour, a bit of serious and a bit of silly mixed together.

I love the use pop culture references, from the word go Jennifer has you feeling like you might just go to school with Alex, you may just casually bump into him in the playground perhaps because he makes reference to the things that you know and the things that are current. It's very funny and appealing- although i'm not sure how that may sit with readers in years to come but right now it's great!

The book is hilarious and Alex's 'power' is simply genius and i felt quite unique- we get a lot of rehashing the same old ideas in exactly the same way and this felt quite fresh and not at all done!

Brilliant, i read it all in one sitting and i'm thoroughly looking forward to the next instalment.

We liked the humour in this book, it was quite daft and silly but we quite liked that. The characters were strong and we liked the friendship between Alex and Jess, well none friendship as they aren't each other's biggest fans at first. This book is quite rude in places so you have to be a little open minded ( Jess's nickname set my children into fits of laughter every time because of its naughtiness) lots of crazy and funny situations means the book flows well and kept my kids interested.

My son enjoyed the daft humour of this book. Be warned 'farts' and 'stink' are mentioned an awful lot. His favourite character was, of course, Bob the goldfish, who is both brave and exceptionally intelligent (I was very thankfully for his happy ending). A very strange, quirky book, which is well worth a read.

In this book Alex and Jess get their powers. This book is really good, a funny story with a fish called Bob!

I really liked the part in the book where they go to a Halloween party and dress up as Harry Potter characters.

Really hope there will be another book

This is a book aimed at boys or girls aged 8-12 years old. It follows the exploits of Alex Sparrow, a year 6 child who sees himself as a super agent.  His teacher is turning other students into goody two shoe zoombies, and Alex wants to find out how & why. He gets a super power of being able to tell when people are lying, but it has a stinky side effect!
The story is about new friendships, being different from your peers, and standing up for what you believe in.  It's a good read, and would hold a child's attention easily.  I really liked the feisty female character called Jess.
