He's got a big heart . . . and a nose to match!
Mold's a bit of a freak. His nose is as big as his body is puny and his mother abandoned him in a bin when he was a mere baby. Who else but the old healer, Aggy, would have taken him in and raised him as her own? But when Aggy is accused of poisoning the King, Mold sets out to clear her name.
In a thrilling race against time to save Aggy from the hangman's noose, Mold faces hideous, deadly monsters like the Yurg and the Purple Narlo Frog. He finds true friendship in the most unusual - and smelly - of places and must pit his wits and his clever nose against the evil witch Hexaba.
This is an exciting fantasy story with an array of wonderful characters, including the inimitable Mold, told in a fresh and distinctive voice by a promising new writer.

I read it myself (an adult)

I got myself in trouble while reading Mold, I got a telling off from my children. See, that's what happens when you buy them a book and end up pinching it to read yourself before they've even had a chance. Mold was worth it though.

Mold and the Poison Plot was full of intrigue, action and drama, but most of all it was full of heart.

I really enjoyed reading about Mold, an underdog from the Dregs, and his group of friends. The story goes a long way to show that a person's social status doesn't determine how much courage they have or how big their heart is.

My children loved this book they really enjoyed Mold's adventures and following him investigating the mystery.  We really liked the way that this book was written the style made it really different to anything we had read.  It also helped you to feel that you were really in the story.  Brilliant story that we could not put down.

This is a very well written story that celebrates how true friendship and loyalty are wonderful qualities to have. The main character, Mold, is able to use his large nose to smell danger, evil, and all manner of things that regular people cannot, and it helps him to make decisions in order to help save the kingdom.  Lots of plots twists, (I won't put any as I don't want to spoil them!), make this a very enjoyable read, and the vivid descriptions are great! I really enjoyed reading this, and I'm hoping that the ending does mean there will be a sequel! Definitely worth reading, a book aimed at 9+ boys or girls.

If you are after a story full of action and twists this is the book. The character is a strange hero with superpower as it is a rat with a big nose. I liked the fact that you do not have to be a certain type to be a hero and mOld is unlikely in that respect. I liked the message that to rescue your kingdom friends and being loyal are important no matter what you look like or ocme from.

You know what, i'm quite an easy to please reader, there's a lot out there that i absolutely love. I give everything a go and i have really really tried to get into Mold but right now, i'm just not feeling it. I've tried for about 3 weeks, i've picked it up and read a bit, then put it down and then i've tried again. I've tried reading it curled up on the sofa, in the garden, i've taken it to bed, i've even tried reading it during journeys in the car but i just can not get into it and i genuinely don't think it is a reflection on the book at all.

I like the idea of the premise and i like the colloquial language but i'm just not feeling it so i have decided to put it to one side for now and come back to it. That's probably as honest as i can be.

I have to say that I, as an adult, loved the style of this book. The way the language was written however, did not keep my 8 year olds interest.  He was constantly getting lost and found it frustrating that he couldn't grasp the writing style. Eventually he did not want to read it. I think older children would love it. I found it drew you into his world very well and the descriptions of the environment were wonderful. I guess it depends on the child. I would recommend to older children.

This book was reviewed by Zuzanna aged 10.
I did enjoy this book, but if it was a little easier to read it would've been better in my opinion.
There were some very funny bits and one of my favourite parts was when the giant Boggers fell in the river. It was fun to imagine them falling.

I would recommend this book to a friend that is a good and experienced reader because it is very hard to read.

I have tried really hard to get into this book but have found it really difficult, especially with the thick accent.  It's a shame as it looked like a really exciting book.  I will try reading it again in the future.
