Crazy capers abound in Ancient Rome! Croakbag the amazing talking raven tells the hilarious story of Perilus, the boy charioteer, his unpredictable family and Tiddles, the widdling elephant who's befriended them all. Another irresistible story for fans of David Walliams or David Baddiel, from Jeremy Strong, the original King of Comedy for young readers.

This book is great. As an adult I found it really funny and so did the boy (although I did have to explain a few of the jokes!). It was just slightly too hard for him to read for himself but we really enjoyed reading it together. We loved the characters, the fast pace of the plot and the narrating crow's constant boasting! Great book- we love forward to reading more from this author

I really struggled to get my 7 year old son to engage with this book. A classic case of judging a book by it's cover I'm afraid! A recent trip to a Roman archaeological site meant that he picked it up with some interest though and we haven't looked back since.
This is such a fun book, obviously influenced by the likes of Horrible Histories etc, it offers an entertaining and humorous story set in Roman times, with lots of jokes and crazy action. My son has laughed all the way through it, some of the names are fantastic.
It's a really fast paced book so didn't work well as a bedtime story for us so my son has been reading it independently and asking for support with some of the various tricky words in it (some of the Roman names are especially challenging). It's lots of fun and has since been passed around his friends too.

A fun book which was well liked by my son. His favourite part was when Croakbag poked Tiddles the elephant's bottom near the end of the book. He thought this episode was hilarious. The were some definite laugh out moments for my son here. The fact that it was set in Roman times was an added bonus for my Horrible Histories obsessed son. However, whilst the majority of the text could be easily read by him, he would have struggled with some of the Roman names.

This was a laugh out loud book by a brilliant author, my little girl has been studying the romans in school so was so excited to have won this.
The book was full of joke, I had to explain a few but still funny.
The narrating Raven (croakbag) was great, his hilarious boastful comments throughout the book made us laugh. We would definitely read more by this author.

This is a really fun book and is full of action, the language/ jokes needed explaining a little to my 6 year, it was perfect for reading together but a bit too tricky for him to read himself.
The narrating Raven (croakbag) is the best part, his boastful comments throughout the book are hilarious and we loved the faced paced, action packed feel of the story.

This book was written by Jeremy Strong. I am a Jeremy Strong fan who if I could see any author It would be the amazing Jeremy Strong! This book wasn't like Romans on the rampage!, Because it was very long and stressful to read but I still liked this book because it was different.

Great story to read if you like comedy books
It's about a young boy called Perilus and a talking bird croak bag.
Very funny and written for younger reads aged around 6 - 10 years
I enjoyed reading the book and would read more books by the same author now.

I read it to Jack the reader aged 9 aged 9
Romans on the Rampage: Chariot Champions 9780141372556

Jack initially started to read this book himself but for whatever reason couldn't get into it, so I read it to him.
It's not really written to read aloud and is more of a fast paced comedy read, so didn't work well for us reading over a number of nights.  There was lots going on in the story and lots of colourful characters. Again I think to keep up with all of this it needs to be a quick read.
That said, it was funny, some of the names were hilarious and we loved the Raven.
