I read it to SophieKelly aged 3 aged 3
The Children's Book of Healthy Eating 9781782702115
5 stars
Book has a very clever format.... explaining the downsides of certain eating behaviour on one side, and the better behaviour on the facing page... so for small people who are just understanding "cause and consequence" it helps to hammer home the contrast. There are a good range of stickers to be earned for trying different foods / eating a good range.. which have instant appeal to small people! There's a lot of content in the book, so we have not managed to read the whole thing in one sitting (my daughter's 3) but are using it as a "dip in and out" as we try and encourage her to try different foods. We had done baby-led weaning, and she was a very good eater until about 2... but she then started narrowing what she would accept.... and we are trying to broaden her out again.. and I definitely think this book will help support that. Will certainly look at the other books in the series too.

My daughter, age 6, has really enjoyed this book. She loves information books so this was ideal. We really liked that for every negative piece of information, there is also a positive piece, providing suggestions and solutions for healthy eating. As an early reader, my daughter has enjoyed reading this herself. The reward chart has been really well received and has definitely encouraged further healthy eating, helping her to make healthy choices independently. There are lots of stickers and again, for a six year old, that can only be a good thing.

This book is written in the same font as the Oxford Reading Tree books used at school and both my boys (aged 8 and 9) noticed that straight away. While I have marked this book as 5 stars, I have marked it as such for younger children.

While the points in the content about eating healthy and drinking enough are relatively basic, I did think the two page spreads showing a negative aspect from poor eating on one page, and on the other the healthy eating positive was quite a clever layout. It allows the reader to directly look at both sides and, as a parent, this makes it easy to discuss the points made.

I would say a child older than 9-10 would possibly find this a bit young for them. The ideas are simple to understand from an early age, although several of the words used are for the slightly more confident reader and as such I would advise reading with a parent. The reward chart and stickers included does add a little more to an interactive side, but again will be more effective for the younger readers.

The stickers are great and I found the book really encouraging for a healthy lifestyle. I have read it in the holidays so I'm probably being healthier than usual - less ice creams and sweets. I agree that you feel tired if you don't eat all your lunch at school, and I agree about drinking lots of water too. If you are learning healthy eating as a topic at school you will find this book very useful and fun.

Easy to read, from a child's point of view. Really encourage's healthy eating. It's written by someone with experience in nutrition. It's really comprehensive without being complicated.

A good book about healthy lifestyle choices for young children, with plenty of illustrated examples to help children understand. The reward chart is a useful tool for parents. Could have included some recipes for children or a list of alternatives to unhealthy snacks.

I read it to Amelie aged 4 aged 4
The Children's Book of Healthy Eating 9781782702115
4 stars
My four year old found some aspects very interesting, and helped her think about what she is eating by thinking about the questions on each page.  Having a layout where one page thinks about negative for habits and the opposite page thinking about positive food habits was helpful.
It is quite long for my four year old who perhaps lost some interest, and found ideas of protein a little beyond her right now.
It was good for starting conversations about what we eat and why.

I read it to Spencer aged 5 aged 5
The Children's Book of Healthy Eating 9781782702115
4 stars
A nice bright book which is easy to follow/read and was engaging for my 5.5 year old who asked lots of questions.  It was reassuring to know that we are already following many of their tips but nice to refresh and talk about healthy eating.  It renewed his awareness of the importance of food and its balance in life.

i read this to all 3 of my children and only the oldest aged 10 seemed interested. the front is a lovely colourful book and includes stickers and a reward chart too. includes some handy tips that children otherwise wouldn't know. i as a parent really didn't find this book very interesting and im not sure it's a book we would read again.

Entering the giveaway this book said up to age 12, so I entered it with my boy in mind.  Receiving it today it's obvious that it's meant for 4-5 year olds.  So Boy won't even look at it let alone review it,me veg Bellboo age 9 thinks 'it's for babies'.
Looking through it myself it has a few basic facts, with questions for the kids to answer things like do drink enough? eat their 5 per day etc. So it's a very basic book ment for very little ones.
We will pass it on to a very fussy little boy (age 5) we know who will hopefully find it interesting and use the star chart to get him on track.
It's a shame but this books not for us, but hopefully our little friend will rate it higher.
