The finely levelled Progress Books provide focused practice of reading sounds and words, including nonsense words, matched to a child's reading level. They provide a great way of allowing children celebrate their day-by-day success and for you to track their progress.
The nonsense words prepare the child to read longer words that contain syllables that are in fact nonsense words, e.g. fan tas tic. Asking a child to read nonsense words also ensures that they are not guessing words and will build their confidence in their wider reading and in the Phonics Screening Check.
Progress Book 1 covers: Speed Sounds Set 1, sound blending and the Ditties. Progress Book 2 covers: Speed Sounds Set 2, Green and Purple Storybooks. Progress Book 3 covers: Speed Sounds Set 3, Pink, Orange and Yellow Storybooks. Progress Book 4 covers: Blue and Grey Storybooks.
The Progress Books are part of the One-to-one Phonics Tutoring Kit which is part of the wider Read Write Inc. Phonics programme, developed by Ruth Miskin. The programme is designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers. It includes Handbooks, Sounds Cards, Word Cards, Storybooks, Non-fiction, Writing books and an Online resource. Read Write Inc. is fully supported by comprehensive professional development from Ruth Miskin Training.
