This second volume covering the lines of the former Severn & Wye Railway in the Forest of Dean continues the journey begun in Rails to the Forest. From Norchard, on the present-day preserved Dean Forest Railway, we travel north to the present terminus of the DFR at Parkend, then beyond along the S&W 'main line' to Cinderford, taking in the branches to Coleford and Lydbrook, and the Mineral Loop. Also encountered en route are many of the myriad industrial sidings that once fed traffic into the system. In a remarkable collection of more than 380 photographs, this mile-by-mile journey takes us on a fascinating and detailed journey along steeply graded and tortuous routes into the very heart of the Forest, to discover once-burgeoning industries hidden away among the wooded valleys.
