This book is suitable for ages 9-14. The traditions of the Philippines' many different groups of people, as well as Spanish and American influences, have joined to create the culture of the Philippines. Christian celebrations such as Christmas and saint's days, Muslim holidays such as Ramadan, and harvest festivals featuring giant higantes are showcased alongside a distinctly Filipino culture that includes the singkil dance, bamboo instruments, and carabao tales. Other topics include: Catholic and Muslim holidays; fiestas throughout the year; traditional arts such as weaving and seashell crafts; a carabao folktale; gongs and musical instruments; the Muslim calendar; and, the Filipino language.
