I was so excited to receive this book. Some of my family are from the Caribbean (on my Mummy's side) so I was really happy to see people who look like some of my relatives compiled in this beautiful book!

I was also thrilled to see Dr Mae Jemison in the mix as she is one of my absolute heroes! I also found there were many names in here of absolutely incredible women that i'd never heard of so i'm really glad to have the book as now i can say i have. The selection of incredible women is great and this is a beautiful, inspiring book to have.

The artwork is stunning and I've spent some of the week practising the illustrative style- it's absolutely beautiful.

This book is wonderful and beautifully illustrated. It give kids a quick summery of powerful black woman throughout history from well known figures such as Oprah Winfrey to activists and even an astronaut. I was worried it would only feature women from the US, but there are lots from all over the globe including the UK's Diane Abbott.
I would love to see this book done for other races and genders too. It would make an amazing read.

I found this book to be informative and educational and I think that, similarly to another book I read recently, because of the younger target reader, the information about each historical figure was quite limited. However, I really liked the illustration style and I think that this would be a brilliant book to share with children

A truly tremendous book! A celebration of women. I loved reading this book with my daughter and my son and showing them all the amazing achievements achieved in spite of great inequality. The illustrations are lovely and we would recommend this book to everyone.

This is a fantastic book, and so important for us to read the stories of black women whose voices are not so prominent in traditional history books. The women appear in chronological order and each one has a double spread with one page of text and one page with an illustration. The information is of a manageable length and the illustrations are really appealing. My 5 year old son has been dipping in and out of the book by himself as well as reading it with me. There are women from all over the world, including the UK, my son is particularly interested in Nicola Adams. Highly recommended!

I won this in the giveaway and I was so pleased. I've taken a while to review it as I wanted to read quite a few of the stories to get a feel for the book. I've been reading them as bedtime stories for my 5 year old and she loves it. It's a really well varied selection of women,  most of who I haven't heard of but I'm glad I have now. As an adult it's a very inspiring book, it makes me realise how lucky I am as a white women in 2018! It has introduced the idea of racism, slavery and civil rights to my 5 year old to a simple level. It's a good way to introduce the ideas,  she has decided that racism is 'silly' and people were 'too mean' to the women. The writing is a little above her so I simplify it a tad so she understands it. Regardless of understanding it fully I think it's a great and important book for many ages.

This book has a collection of inspirational female black leaders within it; from Rosa Parks to Oprah Winfrey, each has a brilliant contribution to today's society. The book is easy to read without patronising the readers and has illustrations which are just beautiful. My young daughter is fascinated by the book I hope that the stories inspire a new generation of young women.

This book is great. The illustrations are beautiful and it’s a fantastic way to teach our children about inspirational black women from the past and present. Each page is so interesting even for me as a Mum. I think it’s really important to show our girls they can do amazing things just like these bold, inspiration women.

As the title states, this a book about bold, black woman and it is full to the brim of awe inspiring biographies. Each woman featured has an easy yet detailed one pagep biography that covers their background and what led to their amazing achievements. With beautiful, simple portraits of each woman, the book is easily accessible to both my six and ten year olds. They have loved hearing the stories, which have provoked some great discussions. After each biography my children have asked for ''One more!", which is always a sign that a book is well written.

As a mother of white boys, I believe it is really really important to expose them to these stories, so that they can widen their horizons and see that it is not just white men who can be scientists, astronauts, and writers. And publishers, please, more books with BAME stories and female characters are needed!

Highly recommend this book for all children.

This is such an inspirational book...for both my five year old daughter and myself!  Each page shares the story of a black woman, some from the past and some from the present, who have done remarkable things beyond what was ever expected from them.

Each page has a sweet illustrations to accompany the text.  My daughter liked that the format was the same for each woman, giving it some familiarity.

It was full of quite tricky words and ideas for her but it's been wonderful to share the book with her and talk her through what so much of it means and why it's so important for us to understand how far we've come, such as the abolition on slavery.

She now thinks these women are super heroes which seems a pretty good outcome from reading this book.
