Meet sixteen year old Elizabeth Latham. Elizabeth is like any normal teenage girl, until her parents split up. Dragged to a party by her best friend Lucy, Elizabeth is exposed to the world of illicit drugs, and begins using to try, not only to numb the pain of her father's leaving, but to experiment with her self-identity. Her initial experimentation; which she describes as "just having fun" leads to a more serious addiction, and leads to the break down of her personal relationships with friends, her boyfriend, and her family. The book deals with Elizabeth's recovery, but includes Elizabeth's journal entries which she has been asked to write by her psychiatrist as part of her treatment following a stint in a rehabilitation facility. It deals with her journey of self-discovery, as she slowly unfolds herself, discovering elements of herself that she never knew existed, such as her own strength, upon which she has never had to rely before.
