Helen Morgan was born in 1921. She lost her sight at the age of twelve, but partially regained it a year later. She learned braille and trained as a shorthand typist for the blind, but her ambition was always to write and she spent most of her early years working on short stories and poetry. She married in 1954 and had three children.
