Late on Christmas Eve, after the town has gone to sleep, a boy boards a mysterious train that waits for him: the Polar Express bound for the North Pole. When he arrives there, Santa offers him any gift he desires. The boy modestly asks for one bell from the reindeer's harness. It turns out to be a very special gift, for only believers in Santa can hear it ring.

This is a lovely Christmas story, with beautiful illustrations. A child wakes up on Christmas Eve and hears a train outside. He boards and finds it full of children on their way to the North Pole. They meet Santa and the child is the first one to be given a gift, a very special honour (although he finds it hard to decide what that should be). On the way home he loses it. We have really enjoyed reading this story, especially as my son loves trains and we are looking forward to watching the film when it is on TV over Christmas.

This book is beautiful! it also has the added bonus of a story CD inside read by Liam Neeson - great for car journeys! A Classic tale brought to life most famously by the film - but even more wonderful in print. The illustrations are lovely and big print so suitable for early readers too. A magical story of a boy that isnt quite sure that he believes in Santa, who boards a magical train heading for the North Pole. Highly recommended.

A boy is awoken late on Christmas Eve by the arrival of a steam train outside his house. Boarding the train he begins an adventure that takes him to the North Pole, and a meeting with Father Christmas. The pictures in the book are very atmospheric and conjure up the wonder of the journey and the magic of Christmas. This is a classic Christmas tale and one that my family returns to every year.

Absolutely love this book and read it every year without fail. It’s about a boy who wakes up to find a steam engine outside his house. It’s the polar express heading to the North Pole picking up passengers on its way. The boy has such a fab adventure and even meets santa who gives him the famous bell. Which can only be heard if you believe. The pictures are beautifully done and you ll be finding bells for your Christmas tree, as every child should hear the bell

My mom got me this for my Christmas eve box, as I really enjoy the film. It was easy to read independently, I did think the illustrations would be a lot more detailed and vivid, and it didn't have the same characters as in the film. It is a nice enjoyable Christmas story and the same as the film.

Nice little story, first I heard of this was when the movie came out, the book is only 22 pages long but they still did a god job adapting the tale for the big screen.

The story is sweet, a train stops outside a boys house and he jumps onboard for a trip to the North pole to meet Father Christmas. The ending is good, a note about believing in the big man.

This is such a good idea for a story I just wish it was longer, would have got 5 stars if it was.
