"I've lost my mum!" Where is Monkey's mummy? It's not too much fun being lost in the jungle, and little monkey wants his mum. A kindly butterfly is keen to help, but they don't seem to be having much luck and keep finding the wrong animals! But eventually, they find . . . Dad! It's just as well that he knows exactly where mum is, and she's waiting with a well-deserved cuddle. Monkey Puzzle Big Book is a clever, funny and charming tale from the unparalleled picture book partnership of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo . The big book format is perfect for use in the classroom or reading to groups

This is a sweet and funny tale of a baby monkey who's lost his Mum and the butterfly who is trying to help him find her. The butterfly keeps misunderstanding the monkey's description and leading him to the wrong Mummy animal. Eventually the monkey is reunited with Mum for a happy ending!

There is a wealth of discussion and amusement that my children are too young or only just getting to - such as the crossed-wires between the monkey and the butterfly, which I think will tickle them when they're older. This is a tale of longetivey that will keep my children company for several years yet.

The beautiful illustrations captivate my children - both of them enjoy examining this book independently.  They are fantastic for discussing in detail away from the main text - or to point at whilst reading out loud to them.

Julia Donaldson's rhyming prose are a pleasure to read aloud and Monkey Puzzle is no different! This is a lovely story that both I and the children revisit frequently.

My daughter really enjoys this book. The little monkey has lost his mommy, and the butterfly is trying to help find her, but the butterfly misunderstands the monkeys descriptions and leads the monkey to the wrong animals. In the end they find his dad who takes him back to his mommy. My daughter loves guessing on each page whether it will be the monkey mommy or a different animal. It is funny and I enjoy the rhyming throughout. We like to read this at bedtime, and I would definitely recommend it.

The tale of a monkey who's lost his Mum and meets a butterfly who tries to help him by using various clues about the monkey's mum's appearance, but keeps taking him to the wrong animal. Written in Julia Donaldson's wonderful rhyme and beautifully illustrated, it introduces young children to various descriptive terms to help butterfly identify the illusive Mum. Each time the young monkey meets the wrong animal he cries out "no, no, no that's an .... (elephant etc)" and my son loves calling out this line on each page. Not to give away the plot, but of course it has a happy ending and is a lovely note to say goodnight on.
