A little girl finds that no matter what she tries to do, she is always overshadowed by her older, bigger sister. But then Small comes into her own one landmark day when her sister's parrot is caught up a tree and her sister is afraid to climb up to save it. Small has to come to her rescue, and the incident makes her realize that she doesn't have to live in anyone's shadow any more.

Jessica Meserve was born in the US and grew up there and in the UK. She graduated with both a BA and an MA in Illustration from Edinburgh College of Art, and worked in publishing as a children's book designer before going freelance to pursue a career as an illustrator. She is married with two daughters.
