Pick a pine tree from the lot - slim and tall, or short and squat! Long straight limbs or branches bent - Mmm! Just smell that piney scent!

From Alan's Big, Scary Teeth creator, Jarvis, and author Patty Toht, comes a beautiful, irresistible Christmas gift book that all begins with ... picking a pine tree! Brimming over with the excitement of being with family at the festive season, a gorgeously rhythmical narrative accompanied by warm, joyful art celebrates all the familiar rituals of decorating the tree - from digging out jam-packed boxes of trimmings, stringing tinsel, to, at last, turning on those twinkly fairy lights.

This is a great addition to any Christmas book collection.  It's a lovely rhyming book that gives the reader instructions that would help them to have the finest Christmas tree ever.  My child liked looking at the different aspects being added to the tree and naming what she saw.
The illustrations by Jarvis are absolutely beautiful and there are plenty of little details to search for and to discuss with a child.  I particularly like the page when we see the finished pine tree and need to turn the page portrait to get the full effect.  There's also a very lovely cameo in the window of the final scene!
This is a book that we will read together and I think will enjoy for years to come.

This gorgeous book takes readers through the  whole process of putting the Christmas Tree up, right from selecting the humble pine tree you like best to turning on the fairy lights and transforming them into a Christmas Tree. Toht has turned the annual tradition into a magical delight and includes enough variations that you’ll find your own style in there somewhere.
I love the message of inclusion; inviting friends over for a decorating party and sharing in the joy of it all together. I think it really captures the essence of Christmas.
The illustrations are beautiful; both of my children were captivated by them.
We’ve just sat and read it beginning to end by the light of the Christmas tree. My only regret is not reading this before we put it up! It’ll be a definite for next year.
The language is pretty simple and the prose is easy to follow for even young children. The rhyming tale makes it a pleasure to read out loud; the sing-song tone really helped wind down the kids.
This is a fanstastic read that we will enjoy again and again this Christmas and many more to come.

Pick a Pine Tree is a lovely story which follows the process of choosing and setting up a Christmas tree. It is the perfect book to read to children before putting up the tree as it is a fun way to show them what's going to happen and give them an idea of what the end result might look like to get them excited. The children really enjoyed this book and looking at all the fantastic pictures and seeing the tree become more and more like a Christmas tree as the story progresses. I like how the story is quite basic but has lots of detail into everything that's happening regarding the tree throughout the book with lots of descriptions of how everything looks or feels and it gave us a chance to ask the children if they'd put up their Christmas tree yet and whether theirs was similar to any of them in the book. It was nice that the words in the story rhymed as well as it meant it didn't feel like just a long list which I find some books can do but there was a purpose to all the descriptions and the children could see that in all the gorgeous illustrations which were just as detailed and beautiful as the story. My favourite part of the illustrations was seeing the children's eyes light up at the end of the book as that was very cleverly done, the children on the other hand loved the small detail of Santa at the end of the book. Although we don't get to know the characters in the book the way they are shown in the book are fantastic as it shows them having fun choosing and decorating a tree and makes it look like a lovely family activity which all the children liked and would point out look what they're doing, I've done that, which is nice as it's getting them thinking about their own experiences. Pick a Pine Tree is a fantastic book to read at the start of the festive season to get the children excited for Christmas and putting up the tree.

This is a lovely book about going to choose a Christmas tree. It basically goes through the process of going to a farm to pick a tree, bringing it home and hosting a decorating day to share the fun with your friends. The illustrations are gorgeous with jewel like colours and the text is in rhyme. Brilliant Christmas (or preferably pre-Christmas) gift.
