They may have been swallowed, but they have no intention of being eaten... A new comedy from the unparalleled team of Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen.

Early one morning a mouse met a wolf and was quickly gobbled up...

When a woeful mouse is swallowed up by a wolf, he quickly learns he is not alone: a duck has already set up digs and, boy, has that duck got it figured out! Turns out it's pretty nice inside the belly of the beast - there's delicious food, elegant table settings and, best of all, dancing. And there's something more: no more fear of being eaten by a wolf! Life's not so bad, considering the alternatives. That is, until a hunter shows up... With a nod to traditional fables and a wink to the reader, the award-winning Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen of Sam and Dave Dig a Hole, Extra Yarn and Triangle offer a tale of cooperation and creative cuisine that is sure to go down easy.

This is a pleasantly unusual and quirky tale. When I first looked at it I wondered if it might be a bit scary for my little girl as it’s all greys and muted colours but I couldn’t have been more wrong. She very much engaged with the story – to the point of making up different endings of the story for herself and she loved the characters especially the slightly eccentric duck. I really enjoyed reading it with her as it’s not formulaic and the story takes a genuinely unexpected turn. We enjoyed discovering it together and have read it every evening for a week. It’s both a fun story and has really sparked her imagination.

A quirky tale about a mouse who gets eaten up by a wolf...inside the wolfs belly, the mouse meets a duck!! The duck is very happy living inside the wolf's belly, it's safe, and duck no longer worries about being eaten.  But one day, a hunter tries to kill the wolf!! So the duck and the mouse need to work together to save the wolf, and of course....save their home!!  They hatch a plan together, to scare away the hunter, and it works. And in turn, we finally find out why wolves howl at the moon!

It's a lovely story, a little bit funny and a classic off the wall story line.

Super fans of Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen will love it.

My 5yr old wasn't really into this story. She found the illustrations boring, as they are done using dark colours. The story was a bit like a fairy tale, with a bad wolf that eats animals, a hunter, and a happy ending. My daughter found it silly that animals lived inside the wolfs tummy, as she's old enough to know that wouldn't happen. She did find what they got up to inside the wolf's tummy funny
