The Oxford Literacy Web is an exciting new literacy programme designed to guide schools successfully through the primary years. Fitting the requirements of the National Literacy Strategy, National Curriculum in England and Wales, English Language 5-14 in Scotland, and Common Curriculum in Northern Ireland, the Oxford Literacy Web guides pupils through the core skills associated with learning to read and write with a diverse range of literary styles within the genres of fiction, non-fiction, rhymes, language, and poetry. The Stages 6-9 poetry books are six Year 2 Poetry books covering Oxford Literacy Web Stages, 6-9 each on a different theme: Festivals and Celebrations; Sports and Games; Fantasy; Weather; Poems from Around the World; Word Play Poems. The series contains a range of poetic forms and styles and includes significant classical and modern poems and poets many of whom are from other cultures. In addition to both humorous and serious poems the collection includes a number of classical poems and many poems published for the first time in this collection. Each book has a wide variety of attractive illustrations.
The poems cover NC/NLS and 5-14 requirements and the accompanying Teacher's Notes give advice on how to teach poetry in the classroom with particular reference to Shared Reading and Shared Writing in the Literacy Hour. The books are available in both a standard and a "Big Book" format.
