The troops were dissolved following the fall of Behanzin (Gbehanzin), the last King of Dahomey, during French colonial expansion at the end of the nineteenth century.The story of The Women Soldiers of Dahomey is told through comic strip illustrations by Pat Masioni a comic strip designer and scriptwriter originally from the province of Bandundu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
