Just read this to 6 month old Percy.
He loved it and particulalrly enjoyed the noises, especially the monkey sound which makes him laugh on every reading!
We don't have the original but this giant book with sounds has been the favourite book this Christmas in our household.

This edition is exactly the same as the original Dear Zoo, only with the addition of animal noises.

My children do really enjoy being able to press the buttons and hear the animal noises but it doesn't really add a great deal to the story (other than really winding up the dog!) They both imitate the animal noises but it's no different from them imitating my own efforts with the original!

I usually use them separately and play a comprehension game - I'll make a noise and ask my children to press the button of the right animal, or tell them to find a specific animal to find the button. However this isn't an activity exclusive to this book and can be done with the pictures in the book itself.

It's a lovely book in itself and if you didn't already have a copy of the original it would perhaps be worth getting...but to be honest I'm not sure the fact there are built-in animal noises justify the additonal expense compared to the classic.

We were given this book by a relative as she knew how much my little girl loves the original Dear Zoo book. The story is the same as the original but with buttons to press for the noises on each page. I don't think this is really necessary and doesn't add anything to the original. We both enjoy the original book and have fun making the noises ourselves. Not worth getting this one too.
