Lonely Planet Kids is planning a super exciting campaign for its new book called This Is My World – and we’d love our Toppsta readers to get involved! Find out more about this awesome campaign below and how you can take part:
What is Lonely Planet Kids doing?
It’s creating an enormous paper chain that’s shaped like thousands of children holding hands. Staff are sending blank templates out to schools around the world, from North America to East Africa to Southeast Asia, and asking children to draw themselves and send their templates back to them for assembly.
Why is Lonely Planet Kids doing this?
It’s celebrating the launch of its new book, This Is My World – it’s the biggest and most ambitious book Lonely Planet Kids has ever made. So they decided it required something special.
It’s a fascinating and fun collection of 84 children from incredibly diverse backgrounds who share their stories and photos of what’s unique about their lives – from school, local festivals and hobbies to their favourite sports and food. These personal portraits also reveal the many things children have in common, no matter where they're from.
The idea behind the campaign is to bring children from around the world together, and celebrate their diversity and shared values.
How to get involved
Click here to download your paper chain template. It’s one template per child so the chain is representative of as many children as possible from around the world.
On the template, each child should draw themselves, colour the picture in, and then add their first name, age and country they live in on the same side. And don’t worry about cutting the figures out. Just send the paper back to Lonely Planet and their assembly team will do the rest. Once they’ve received all the submissions, they’ll glue them together to bring the giant paper chain to life.
You can either send your template by post to:

Or, if you’re a school and have over 20 templates to return, Lonely Planet can provide you with a stamped addressed envelope. Just email [email protected] to request one.
Finally, you can also scan the templates in and email them to [email protected]
Now go have some fun!
