She received a Bachelor's degree in English, with an emphasis in creative writing, from Minnesota State University Mankato and graduated summa cum laude. She lives in Mankato, Minnesota, with her family. Joan Axelrod-Contrada is the author of more than 15 books for young people. She holds an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She has written books about ghosts, mummies, and pesky critters.
