Claire Summerscale has been playing chess since the age of nine. When her parents taught the game to her brother and Claire showed an interest, she was told that chess is a game for boys. This made Claire determined to prove them wrong and, once she could beat her brother every time, she went on to become the British girls under-11 and under-13 champion. Claire is a former English Chess Federation Director of Junior Chess and has been a professional chess coach for more than 15 years.
