Reading Anne of Green Gables is very much a right of passage to any young reader aged 9 to 14. But did you know there's more than just one book to her story? Here is a summary of what you can expect, plus the whole list of books in order.
The books follow the life of our young main character and orphan Anne Shirley, as she is sent to live in a place called Green Gables, charming everyone with her power of imagination and kind spirit. Over the course of the series, Anne goes from pre-teen to fully grown adult, moving through the motions of everyday life, as well as living her first big experiences, like her first kiss, changing jobs, falling in love and becoming a mother. Despite the curveballs life throws at her from a very young age, Anne has a positive approach to life, making her a character we can truly root for, love and grow with.
Anne's main story is also followed by some additional books following her children: Rainbow Valley, Rilla of Ingleside and The Blythes Are Quoted.
This is a lovely series to tuck into if you'd like to read a cosy classic, and is perfect for fans of Little Women and The Secret Garden.
