Here Sharon McElmeel suggests numerous ways to cultivate literature-rich classrooms and libraries. The first chapter addresses the subject of organising and using activities to integrate language arts skills throughout the curriculum. Succeeding chapters highlight specific books (information books, fiction and picture books) for focusing on mathematical concepts, "gourmet reading", the reading/writing connection, and expressive arts. In the final chapter, a range of suggestions that span the curriculum and offer variety of literature-related activities is offered. All of the activities are designed to help students make the connection to all strands of their learning experience, improve reading skills, and become active, responsible learners. This book should be valuable to primary and intermediate classroom teachers and children's and school librarians. It can also be utilised in college-level children's literature courses.
