Even though it was a small book, there was a lot of text, and some big words. As there was so much reading to do it, I think it could have done with more illustrations to break it up a bit. It wasn't the easiest book to get into, and it wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it would, but it was still nice to read. It was full of adventure which I like and  liked the charcater Sox the most.

This is a very different book to that I would normally read.  I found the story a little difficult to follow at first read and didn't really like the pictures that much.  I have read it again and enjoyed it more the second time around but I am not sure if I would read it again and probably wouldn't choose to read others like it.

What a quirky book! A marvelous collection of weird and wonderful characters in their own little world, beautifully illustrated, with lots of details to study. A tale of magic and mystery, adventure and oddness, and a puzzle to solve. Lovely and weird little characters that are quite charming and definitely unique, and do grow on you. We particularly love Sheepy. Great story-telling, and clever use of nonsensical language that seems to amuse little readers, and lots of colourful adjectives to add to their own story writing.  Certainly a tale of fun and different from the usual and perfect for children with a vivid imagination. As for solving the riddle, i'm not entirely sure what it was we were doing, or what had to be solved, and we did tend to forget about it as the story progressed and Sheepy and friends encountered different adventures on their travels, but a good story all the same with it's twists and turns. Maybe a story that needs to be read a few times. Probably more suitable for the older end of the target age group, but the artwork helps keep the story captivating for younger ones, and can result in some interesting conversations.

Some good illustrations in this book and some wonderfully weird characters but my daughter found a lot of the words hard to read so we read some of it together but the story is hard to get into and understand for my daughter.

Really looked forward to reading this as the cover and title is terrific. Sadly, the old adage about not judging a book by its cover holds true here. I was surprised to find it to be a text-heavy book, particularly as the landscape format doesn't lend itself to reading wordy novels with ease. My son gave up reading it himself, and sadly so did I. The writing style starts off nice and quirky, which is fun to start with, but it doesn't let up, and quickly becomes tiring. The author loves plumping out sentences with metaphors, superfluous language and other fluff, meaning that a story that could have been told in a few pages instead becomes a grinding novella. This book could do with some serious editing.

To be honest we gave up on this after about 10 pages. Its like the author has read a Roald Dahl dictionary and has tried to cram as many peculiar words into each sentence as possible. I had high hopes based on the cover and the blurb as the concept looked interesting. The story just didn't go anywhere and we both got bored. This book is a bit Marmite; you'll either love the style or hate it. Roald Dahl or 'The land of Green Ginger' are fantastic examples of how language can be used inventively but this book, sadly, is not.

For me as an adult i found the book entertaining and funny, and enjoyed reading it.
but my daughter didnt understand it one bit, the words used were confusing and hard to read which meant she couldnt do what she usually does and recap the chapters when i leave her with the book for alone reading. she didnt understand anything that was happening and said the pictures were boring and all looked the same. The book was alot longer then i expected as its quiet a small looking book. non of us got the riddle!

The cover of the book is really cool and I thought the title was mysterious. When I started to read the book I didn't like it, there were lots of big words that I didn't understand or have seen before. I got my dad to read it too me but it wasn't the mystery j expected and didn't e joy it. I haven't and won't finish the book, it's a little boring. The book has good, interesting illustrations but didn't suit me to read.

As a 7 year old my daughter  found some of the language rather tricky to read and understand. Definately suitable for older children. The story itself was delightful however did not hold her attention. As an adult reading to her as she found quite tricky I feel suitable for older children probably 9 upwards.
