Being numerate is now a basic skill in our industry. Hair and beauty like many other industries has no choice but to engage in lean service management and at the base level this involves basic numeracy and literacy. That is why both this book and this scheme are important contributions in the vocational education of this cohort of students.
If a salon is to operate under lean management processes, it is vital that operatives can eliminate waste in all processes. In order to do that they need to be able to calculate mentally, to understand the nature of that calculation and to be able to apply it in the context of their work. This book contains lessons that carry scenarios based in the workplace that help students to acquire these skills. Numeracy and literacy are food and drink to a business. The business can survive for a short time without them but in the long run, without them, the business will die.
