A definite hit with my six year old. An excellent, educational book with bright and appealing illustrations. The book is broken up into twelve maps (my son's favourite was skeleton cove) which you have to navigate around. It acts as a great introduction to reading maps and understanding co-ordinates. My son enjoyed following the different paths and answering the simple questions (finding co-ordinates and maths ones). He is now currently trying to use it as inspiration to create his own maps.

This book is a great fun for my children. Every time they read it they can check their navigation skills,  math and vocabulary! The illustrations are bright and really full of details. The children can check their knowledge regarding traffic rules (like how to behave on traffic lights, roundabouts etc..). What my daughters really enjoy is finding hidden objects and reading the maps. There are 12 of them so lots of activities are involved before they reach Merp Castle ( which was their favourite place on the maps:))
I would highly recommend this book as it's really educational and nicely published.

We thought this book was brilliant, lots of really detailed pictures and interesting maps under the sea. You have to move through 12 different place that are mapped out. The different places are really imaginative and fun to find you way through. 

The book is fun but quite educational with paths questions throughout and finding different coordinates map reading too. A great book.

Such an excellent book, perfect for any child who enjoys looking at or using maps.  Each page is visually stimulating, from Old Town to Snoozy Sea Dragon to Anemone Villas, each page helps children to understand how co-ordinates work, and they are asked simple maths questions about each page and the items on the page.  Both my 4 and 7 year old loved looking through the book.  My 4 year old liked tracing his finger around the roads on each page, and with help could answer some of the maths questions.  My 7 year old said it helped her to understand co-ordinates more, and that it was good fun.  I think that the book also enhanced her understanding of co-ordinates too.
The idea of having the 'merps' as little characters on each page was a really fun idea, and I especially liked the double end page looking around the castle.  As a parents there is a good back page full of information such as 'understanding co-ordinates', 'recognising shapes', and 'maths probelms and vocabulary' which was very helpful.
This is a lovely book, certainly great for boys or girls.  I'd recommend it for chidlren aged 4-8, and would make a great present.

I like this book a lot, I like maps and these one are interesting, there's lots to look at and you always find something new, there are some puzzles to solve which are fun

Very detailed illustrations and packed full of activities. We like this book but it's taking us a while to get through as its very dense. A great book for the school holidays!

I was a little hesitant when we received this book as whilst it looks and sounds great, I wasn't sure the narrative was strong enough to pull it together (after having had a sneaky peak for myself!). The idea is that the  reader has to embark on a journey through sea town to the unfinished castle, collecting objects and solving problems along the way - however I found that this 'quest' wasn't reiterated through the pages so I found myself feeling a bit lost. However, in the hands of my nearly-5-year old, this book came to life! Tracing maps is just his thing so he was soon engrossed, and the bits I thought might go over his head for now - use of coordinates in particular - he picked up very quickly. There are problems to solve along the way, ranging in difficulty (for example, counting objects, showing fingers, finding coordinates). For now he misses those out unless we're reading together, as he's too interested in collecting his object and carrying on with his journey, but as his reading skills get better I'm sure he'll pay attention to these himself. Personally I think there could be a few more problems to solve and be a bit more obviously marked (there's a lot going on on the page) but I do like the illustration style, and I can see that this will be a book my son soon gets lost in - and that's what it's all about! So overall a thumbs up from us!
