Luna loves library day: that's the day she spends with her dad. Exploring the shelves they find magic, mystery and even start to mend their own history. An inspiring story from one of the UK's greatest up-and-coming poets for children, captured in all its flights of fancy by newcomer Fiona Lumbers.

Fantastic book.  My daughter loved Luna going to the library and checking all the books she wanted shouting check everytime.  The illustrations in the book are beautifully detailed and the addition of an extra book within the book was a great touch.  Highly recommended.

A great story about going to the library, sharing books and choosing stories. It also quietly addresses the fact that Luna's parents are not together and the day at the library is her time with her father. Perfect for anyone in this situation, nevertheless enjoyable anyway.

This was a delicious book to read at assembly time.  Luna is a little girl who loves books and loves spending quality time with her Dad.  The story is a wonderful balance and interweaving of these themes: it's a very clever book but wears its cleverness lightly. Fiona Lumbers' illustrations capture perfectly Luna's joy and imagination and it's a real 'feel good' book even though it has emotional depths which hint at some degree of family difficulty.  I couldn't tell if the children had understood about Luna's deeper need for her library day, in terms of seeing her Dad who clearly doesn't live at home but I didn't think it necessary to discuss this aspect, instead we discussed libraries and our favourite types of books, joining in enthusiastically with the 'check' refrain.  I don't think it's necessary to wring every ounce of meaning out of a picture book anyway, sometimes you have to step back and let the children discover meanings of their own when they're ready for them.  I am sure that if a child had experienced a parental break up, there would be a good chance they would recognise the scenario and empathise with Luna or one-to-one with a parent, the theme could be explored gently.  There is a very clever 'book within a book' that the children loved: we actually got to read 'The Troll King and the Mermaid Queen', which is the book Luna is sharing with her Dad at that moment.  The illustration which followed brought tears to my eyes - in a good way!  Joseph Coelho's words are perfectly balanced and the ending is very satisfying: Luna loves library day and there's nothing more to say, it's just an all round great experience for her. This is such a joyful book which could help and reassure a child in a similar family situation.

My kids loved this book. The illustrations are beautiful and my kids loved the fact it had a book inside the book for them to read. The story isnt very long but it is a really great book to read. My daughter read this to her sister and brother twice as they all loved it so much. Can see this being a book we read alot

A great book that promotes reading (the reason I was so pleased to have received this book from Toppsta). It shows the fun of visiting the library and the joy and adventure that can come from books. It also carefully addresses the issue of Luna spending time with her Dad who no longer lives at home. The additional story-within-a-story was a bonus that only added to addressing real-life issues Luna was facing.
An enjoyable book but even better for tackling real issues in a real way.

A clever book in many ways. It's about a little girl who loves her library day. At the library she meets her Dad and spends the time reading books and having fun. The little book within the book is sweet and my girl loved the mermaids. My two little ones didn't see the subtle story line about the girls parents not being together but they both enjoyed it.

My daughter loves going to the library so really related to the story. The unusual layout of a story inside a story was a brilliant surprise. She has asked for this to be read to her again and again since we received it.

This is a charming book. We love the illustrations - they are beautiful.

The story is about a girl called Luna who simply loves library day because that's the day she spends with her dad.

There is also a book inside this book, which is a lovely and quirky touch.
