Hamilton the Pig is very fond of hats - big hats, small hats, tall hats and suitable-for-every-and-any-occasion sort of hats. Hamilton loves hats so much his mum starts to worry that he's a very vain little pig. Little does she know that Hamilton's favourite hats will teach him some very important lessons! Hamilton's Hats by Martine Oborne is a wonderfully funny tale, illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the award-winning creator of The Gruffalo.

My daughter got this book from nursery and initially I thought it was a Julia Donaldson book - same illustrator and follows a pattern like the Smartest Giant in Town. But it is a different author who doesn't use rhyme. The text is well thought out and there's a clear storyline of how Hamiliton learns life lessons with all his hats. We really enjoyed it.

I like this picture book a lot. I enjoy choosing which hat I'd like and asking the children to do the same. Hamilton's mother is worried Hamilton, with his obsession with hats might be a little vain. However as the story unfolds, we discover he is in fact determined, brave patient and kind too. A heartwarming tale with lovely illustrations too.

Hamilton Pig is very fond of hats... and his mum does not approve - she thinks he is vain. But as Hamilton interacts with the world, and has his hats stolen from him.... his character is tested as he braves the crocodile's jaws, climbs the giraffe's neck, waits patiently until the monkeys have stopped playing with his hat...and shows kindness as he gives up his hat to offer shelter to another animal. Very reminiscent of The Smartest Giant in Town.... but much more wordy. Good for an age 3+ listener.

My daughter had this book from nursery. Hamilton has lots of hats, and he meets a few.diffwtent animals that take his hat and he has to get them back. He learns qualities along rhenway like patience. At at the end he is very kind and gives his hat away to a little mouse, to use as his home. It was a bit wordy for my daughter. When it's a story she's really into, that doesn't make any difference, but this one she would lose interest a bit. She really liked the page at the back of the book where it had pictures of all different kinds of hats.

We love Axel Scheffler's illustrations so we decided to give this book a try. It's not by Julia Donaldson, but the idea behind it remembers a bit The Smartest Giant in Town. The pig is so attached to his hats that it makes him more determined, brave and even kind because of it. Not sure the part of going into the crocodile mouth is actually a brave thing to do, or just not very smart, but besides it is quite a fun book. My son had fun looking at the books and the pig's adventures, but I don't think my son really understands how each thing he did made him either brave or determined.

This is a story about Hamilton who loves his many hats. His mummy thinks that he is vain and won't learn any life lessons by only thinking about his hats. However, Hamilton has some adventures because of his hats and actually learns some important things about being determined, brave, patient and kind.

My four year old daughters love the drawings in this book - Axel Scheffler is amazing as always. I did try reading this book to them when they were three but they didn't seem very interested in it. They much prefer it now that they are older.

My daughter was given this as a gift for her third birthday. She enjoyed the illustrations but I think the sentiment behind the life lessons were a bit lost on her. We'll keep reading it though because unlike so other books this is a good way to teach empathy and kindness in a subliminal way!

We enjoyed sharing this story about Hamilton and his many hats. The book teaches some important life lessons throughout the story, promoting both determination and kindness. We spoke about having an interest in something and collecting things. I also used the book to encourage designing some hats for the characters and ourselves in addition to the story, thinking about different hats for different seasons etc.

I bought this book because I love Axel Scheffler's illustrations, and he certainly didn't disappoint.
I love the message that the book is giving about everyone being confident in who they are and not having to conform. I love the personal qualities that Hamilton discovers along the way, but I find the book very wordy and that my youngest loses focus because of this. I find myself trying to I shorten and simplify some sentences to aide understanding.
