This is a totally stunning book. My husband who is a Drama teacher loved spending weekends reading different parts of the book to my son. It's in depth and covers all areas of theatre not just acting. The information coupled with the many photographs really brought the book and the theatre to life.Clearly a lot of research and time has gone into putting this book together.
My son loved his dad sharing the knowledge he had and also both learning many new facts together, it was fantastic to watch them sharing this experience. I would often hear 'gasps' and a 'WOW' from my son!
Any family with a child (or adult) who loves to act or has an interest in the theatre would love this book. It would make an amazing gift.

I was so excited to start reading this book to my eldest son. Being a Drama teacher helped me get enthusiastic about this I guess but the presentation of the information was outstanding. It far surpassed my expectation and went into real depth and even talked about past productions. My son loved linking the pictures to other characters they had played in things he had seen.
A real treasure to find and know it will help keep my boys keen to use Drama as they grow.

I gave this book to a group of year 6 children to review. Here are their comments:
"Really bright and colourful- it engaged me straight away. I love how much detail there is. I especially love the information about the different plays."
"I enjoyed the quality of the pictures and photographs; they really bring the book to life. I liked all the little do you know facts scattered throughout the book. The book is clear to understand and well set out. There are some great instructions for acting too."
"The book has a really helpful list of how I can research further and how to get into acting."
"There are so many great things about this book. It is vibrant and full of detail.  The history of acting is very interesting to learn about. I also loved learning about all the famous people and places in the acting world."

We won this book at exactly the right time.  My son had stage fright during his school nativity performance and then just weeks later he was told that there would be a Burns poetry reading competition.  We needed to do some research into the theatre!

This is a gorgeous, hardback book with a bold title which makes you want to dive right in.  Each section is broken down into bite sized pieces of text which is easily accessible for all.  There is also a glossary at the back to explain technical theatre words.  The pictures are bright and clear and really illustrate the points and make the theatre come alive even if you have never visited a theatre.

We particularly like the 'tricks of the trade' sections where you get an insight into what really happens.
