A wonderful story!  My daughter absolutely loved the characters and found the illustrations delightful!  She loved the pirate theme and Penguin Blue was a definite new favourite character!  Will definitely look for more in this series!

Penguin blue and his friends are on a pirate adventure, looking for treasure. My daughter liked all the penguins and other animals that go on the adventure, and we liked that it was a rhyming text. It was the perfect length, with detailed, bright and colourful illustrations. My daughter liked that they found something great when on their adventure, and could rescue captain Walker plank, who had been stuck on the desert island.

This a really bright and colourful book- with lots of details in the pictures. It's about a group of penguin friends who play pirates for the day, and the adventures they get up to. My daughter really enjoyed the rhyming in the story.

This is the first Rob Biddulph that we have read and we are certainly fans of this one. The characters are lovely and as my son is a big fan of all things to do with pirates, he absolutely loved this book. The story is very enjoyable and it is an added bonus that it is a rhyming book. We'll certainly be reading other books by this author in the future.

What a nice book! I loved the story line, starting with the idea of the penguin using a pirate costume and then going on an adventure with his friends. Their "ship" sinks, but this lets them find a real pirate ship. The illustration is wonderful and the ending is so cute. My son totally loved the pirate ship being used as a playground at the end (he said it's his favourite part) and he wants to read it over and over again. His words are "I liked that book, that was a nice story!". We are looking forward to read other books by Rob Biddulph, since this was our first one.

As a coincidence we went to the Diana's Memorial Playground this weekend, where they have a pirate ship in the playground as well. Perfect timing!

Both my kids enjoyed this book. Some animals go off in search for treasure in their rubber dinghy. The boat pops and they fall into the sea, where they find a ship wreck. My boy loved finding x marks the spot on the island and my girl liked the ending. Lovely illustrations!

This book was an absolute pleasure to read tonight.  A total delight on every page, gorgeous, clever words and illustrations. Love the ending. Lo loved it and the opportunity to practice newly found sound knowledge (Pirate Plank’s Playground!).

Another Rob Biddulph must read!

My daughter loved the story of Pirate Penguin Blue. The story is the perfect length for bedtime and it has already become one of her favourites. She loves to count the numbered 'Seven Seas'. I did find the text a little more difficult to read on the dark colour pages but still manageable and doesn't detract from the flow of the story.

This is the first Penguin Blue book we have read and we thoroughly enjoyed it. My daughter loves pirates and also penguins so it was off to a good start! A lovely read about making new friends and helping each other. It has some beautiful illustrations and lovely extra details in this hardback edition, like the scull and crossbones under the dust cover and the endpapers with fish patterns. We have already read it 3 times over so I think it's a big hit!

We are big lovers of all the Rob Biddulph books and this new one is not a disappointment.  Full of our favourite characters going on another adventure, this time sailing the seas as pirates.  They hit a spot of bother but do not fear, the friends meet another pirate who saves the day.
We love the rhyming text, it flows so easily and we have loved all the pirate talk.  It's such a fun story...we also love the hints of his other stories through the brilliant illustrations.
Wonderful...when's the next book out!?!

This is firstly a beautifully illustrated book; my children loved the characters brought to life through the illustrations.
The story is simple to follow with quirky characters. They enjoyed predicting events in the story and talking about the characters.
They found humour in the story and we read it quite often!

The story is about a penguin who wanted to play a new game. He chose to play pirates and found a crew including a polar bear sailing on a boat. Penguin Blue has an adventure and finds a different kind of treasure. I like it because Penguin makes new friends and it was exciting to read especially when they find a shipwreck. It was also fun to read because there were lots of pirate words and phrases, like 'starboard' and 'avast'

I read this book almost every night to my son and I would gladly give it five stars if the look of it was a bit different. Namely, the way it's printed is a bit annoying. Some of the pages are dark blue and the text disappears (not the easiest to read in a dim light while you're trying to put your child to asleep). Also there's a page where the text is vertical for some reason and you actually have to turn two whole book in order to read it. Rather inconvenient.
The story itself is cute, I love rhymes.
