On his way home one moonlit night, a strange thing happens to Oliver
James: he unexpectedly turns into a werewolf! Suddenly, he can
run faster than an express train! He can leap higher than tall
buildings! He's stronger than a lion! There's only one problem: what
on earth will his parents say, when he gets home?

Nicholas John Frith's third picture book is a rich, dramatic visual
feast - and a wickedly funny romp featuring the most endearing
little werewolf imaginable.

My daughter really enjoyed the story it was unlike any other story we have or have read before so it was a nice change. The pictures are really lovely although some pages are a bit too dark which makes it hard to see what's going on. Ivy found it really funny when Oliver James walked in to his home and his parents were werewolves too!. I'm sure this will be a firm favourite for the next coming months.

This is a simple yet funny book, with really lovely retro style illustrations. Oliver James is trying to go home from school when suddenly everyone runs away and the bus doesn't stop. He realises he has become a werewolf and can't wait to tell his friends - but they are scared too! Will his parents be scared though? It's a nice easy read with lots of things to look at in the illustrations. Good spooky book.

I read this book to both my great-grandsons aged 4 and 2. They loved it ! Although the 4 yr old thought it might be scary, once we started reading he couldn't wait to turn the page. The end of the story was a lovely surprise for my two grandies as they were worried about Oliver James being sad. The illustrations are really good with a lot going on on every page which is beneficial to a child's imagination no matter what reading level they're at.

Overall A werewolf named Oliver James is a book I would recommend.

Werewolves are not usually the subjects of picture books usually being the stuff of much older children’s fiction. Yet Nicholas manages to create a character who is more fantastical and funny than frightening. When Oliver James unexpectedly turns into a werewolf one moonlit light instead of being horrified he’s thrilled. It’s like he’s turned into a superhero – well one that people run away from – with incredible powers to run faster than a train, leap over buildings and lift delivery trucks with his bare hands. But his joy turns to dismay when he realises he has to get home in time for tea, will his parent think the changes are as amazing as he does. Superbly crafted with bold, vibrant illustrations that bound off the pages this is a wickedly funny story, that is totally irresistible.

We saw this book in the shop window of a local bookshop and bought it on a whim. It's brilliant! A funny Hallowen'en story with a twist at the end, and the illustration are gorgeous. My boys love it, and so do I!

We loved this book about Oliver James returning home from school to find out he has suddenly turned into a werewolf he's excited to tell everyone but no one recognises him & runs away in fear. When Oliver James does return home he gets a surprise from his parents.

My daughter really enjoyed this book. We found it funny (the ending twist is brilliant!) and there are some great visual puns. The retro style illustrations are vibrant, playful and unique. It's an original story that is just the right length for bedtime. Very much recommended.

My daughter enjoyed this book as it was different to others she has read. She liked the front cover and illustrations throughout the story. It is about a boy who turns into a werewolf and can't wait to surprise and tell everybody. The ending is great as it was unexpected. It made my daughter laugh. I would recommend this book.

My five year old twin girls really liked this book. It is funny, charming and a little bit spooky with lovely illustrations. Rather reminiscent of the film Teen Wolf, but that's not a bad thing. A good, fun book to share with your kids.
