A boy on a quest against the power of the storm

Eleven-year-old Danny's parents are storm chasers - which sounds fun and exciting, and it is, so long as you aren't the son who has to wait behind at home. And one night, after a particularly fierce storm, Danny's parents don't come back. Stranger still, the old sycamore tree in Danny's yard seems to have been struck by lightning, and when he picks up a fragment of wood from the tree's heart, he finds he can hear voices ... including that of next door's rather uppity cat, Mitzy. The stick is a taro, a shard of lightning that bestows upon its bearer unnerving powers, including the ability to talk with plants and animals - and it is very valuable.

So valuable, in fact, that it attracts the attention of a Sammael, an ancient figure of darkness and a buyer of souls. And he will do anything to get his hands on it ... And so begins a dangerous and daring quest. Danny, who is bewildered, alone and unaccustomed to acts of bravery, must confront his fears, find his parents and unravel the secrets of The Book of Storms ...

Thank you to Toppsta for this amazing book! Though this book is a little complicated at the beginning afterwards you will see what a great book this is.

One day Danny wakes up to find his storm chasing parents gone, the only trace of them a stick left by the lightning storm that night. With this stick called a taro Danny can talk to nature. What will happen next, and will Danny ever see his parents again?

I liked this book because it was mysterious and adventurous.

The storyline was not one I have read in other books so that made it interesting.

There were some pretty scarey parts in it for more sensitive readers

Though my son is nearly 8 years old I gave him this book to read and he loved it.  He really enjoyed the main character Danny and the adventures he got into.  He found it very exciting and though it's rated for an older audience, he found it easy enough to read and engage with.  My son said he'd recommend the book to his friends.

This book didn't catch my attention. I found that I couldn't follow the plot very easily.

The book was about a boy called Danny, whose parents studied storms and were storm chasers. When a particularly big storm hits, Danny's parents go out to chase it, and never return. Danny is left alone.
Some time later, Danny went out in his front garden and saw that the sycamore tree had been hit by a bolt of lighting. The tree was burnt and charred except for one stick which was green and healthy. Danny picks the stick up and the stick gives him magical properties that allow him to speak to natural things, such as plants and animals. Danny goes on a mission to find his parents and meets an evil spirit that is trying to destroy life by controlling all the storms on earth.

This book was a bit far fetched to be honest but was an ok read.  I found it a little exiting to begin with but soon lost interest and my mum read it with me just to finish it so we could give a review. It is quite an adventurous story but i thought this book would be more about storms. I've given it to my older sister to read now.
