Duck wants to join a club. But he needs to be able to ROAR to join Lion Club, or TRUMPET to join Elephant Club. And all he can do is QUACK! What's a Duck to do? Why, set up his own club of course... where everyone is welcome to join!
With a laugh-out-loud text from John Kelly and brilliantly quirky illustrations by Steph Laberis, Can I Join Your Club? is a heart-warming story which celebrates the importance of diversity and friendship. Perfect for little ones who are learning to make friends at a new school or nursery.

This is a really great book, the illustrations are fun too. Duck wants to join a club, but he cant road, or trumpet. Each club he tries to join he's not allowed into. So duck comes up with his own idea. A nice fun book about friendship.

A fantastic story with beautiful illustrations.
Duck wants to join a club to make some friends but he is unable to join lion , snake or elephant clubs because he can't roar or hiss or trump like them. He comes up with a brilliant idea. Duck sets up his own club , where everyone is welcome to join.
There are such strong themes of friendship, diversity, and positive thinking in this wonderful story .
the lesson that friendship is more important than differences is delivered through this story beautifully.

What a lovely story all about duck who wants to join a club but is always denied as he can't roar like a lion or remember like an elephant. He then makes his own club which is very successful as he lets everyone join.

This is a brilliant book, one my LO loved from the moment we received it.  The story is very simply about a duck who wants to make friends and join in, but it isn't able to pass the criteria to join anyone else's clubs.  So he makes up his own, with no such criteria, and makes friends with everyone.  It is a lovely story, with an appropriate moral for little ones, and requires lots of animal noises which makes it doubly fun.  Colourful illustrations, and just enough text on each page, to keep it engaging.

A lovely book with a lovely message. My daughter could understand how the main character would be feeling when he wasn't allowed to join the clubs. She really liked the ending.

I love 'Duck' who is the hero of this story! He is persistent in trying to make friends but he doesn't quite fit - in the end he forms his own club and lets anyone join. As the grandma of a 'limb different' child, I love this - we don't all have to be the same to be friends. Brightly coloured and wonderfully illustrated. Would definitely recommend this.

A great story to read out loud or to yourself about the value of including everyone rather than excluding others. Cute entertaining pictures too

We love this book! it makes my daughter (aged nearly 3) giggle as the duck tries to make all the other animal sounds. It describes in a really age appropriate way how the duck feels and she totally gets that it's about including everyone. This is one I don't mind reading time and time again.

I was excited to read this book with my 4 year old as one of school friends has recently started to exclude children from games and be a little bit mean. The book lived up to my hopes of illustrating this behaviour, and how to deal with it, in a fun, 'non-preachy' way. Not only does my son talk about that boy differently now but he has also come home from school telling me about all the 'new friends' he's played with rather than the same three every day.
Putting aside the excellent lesson it teaches, the book is fun to read and wonderfully illustrated. We've been reading it every night for about two weeks and it hasn't made me lose my mind!!
Highly recommend.

We really enjoyed reading this book and the message that it has.

It's about a Duck who wants to join a club but each club he tries to join won't accept him as a member for one reason or enough and so decides to start his own club with only one rule - you'll need to want to be in a club with him.

Both my boys loved the colourful pictures and my eldest loved pointing out all the different activities that the animals were partaking in on the last page.

In all, this is a beautiful book with a strong message and it's become my eldest's favourite bedtime story!

I'd have given this three stars but was overruled by George (aged 5) who awards this top marks! He loved reading the elephant rhyme and "got" the inclusive "be nice to others" message, which will no doubt resonate with young children finding their way in the dog eat dog world of nursery/reception class.

We loved this book! Well worth a read, my little boys felt sorry for 'Duck' until duck made his own club where everybody could join, regardless of if you could trump or hiss. Duck is a strong being that took everything in his stride, fabulous book, with eye catching illustrations and colour.
Hopefully my little boy will of taken note, that everybody is equal as well as individuals.
Great use of diversity and inclusion.

We enjoyed this book. The illustrations are very funny and interesting and different from other picture books. The story was very pleasing and promotes good values. I thought there were maybe too many words for some children to follow, or even for an adult to read and keep the child's interest. But otherwise a lovely fun book.
