From award-winning Richard Byrne, author and illustrator of This Book Just Ate My Dog! (shortlisted for the Children's Book Award) comes another wonderfully inventive book starring Ben and Bella. It's a funny and original picture book where the book itself interferes with what happens on the page. Ben has a remote-controlled fire engine but when he presses the buttons on the remote the engine doesn't turn or spin or sound its siren. While Ben and Bella
scratch their heads over this, strange things are happening to Bella's dog! It's only when Ben tries the VOICE button on the remote control that Bella's dog is able to speak, warning them that 'This book is out of control!' Readers get the chance to press the buttons and witness the hilarious slapstick results
every time the page is turned. It's an interactive experience for the reader who ultimately has to help in restoring normality.

Ben comes knocking on Bella's door to show her his new fire engine. Unfortunately when he tries to use the remote control to make the engine's ladder go up, it makes Bella's poor dog rise to the ceiling! From here, there is calamity after calamity because the book is out of control and Ben and Bella need help from the reader to get back to normality!

Very clever idea for a book and it is very well executed. My daughters find it hilarious and love to "fix" the book. I think the book is best for ages three and up as I don't think younger children would really understand the concept and wouldn't enjoy it as much as slightly older children.

We came across this book when browsing in the library and my four-year-old and I really enjoyed it. It starts off with a remote control and a fire engine and incorporates a mechanic that brings the reader in to fix the problem!  We didn't quite get it properly at first but once we did we really loved how we were involved in the story.

We have read a lot of "interactive" books recently, so I had high hopes for this one, however my daughter wasn't particularly engaged with it and I think she found it a little complicated.  Would recommend for older children.
